Fluimucil Paediatric 20 mg/ml Oral Solution 200 ml

It is a medicine formulated with acetylcysteine, the active ingredient of this medicine, which belongs to the group of mucolytics, which act by reducing the viscosity of mucus, making it more fluid and facilitating its elimination.

Its use facilitates the elimination of excess mucus and phlegm in colds andflus.

Suitable for use inadolescents and children from 2 years of age.

The recommendeddose varies according to the weight and age of the patient:

• Children aged 2 to 7 years: administer 5 ml of oral solution (100 mg acetylcysteine) every 8 hours. Do not exceed a dose of 15 ml (300 mg acetylcysteine) per day.
• Adolescents and over 7 years of age: give 10 ml oral solution (200 mg acetylcysteine) every 8 hours. Do not exceed a dose of 30 ml (600 mg acetylcysteine) per day.

Measure the amount of medicine to be taken with the measuring cup included in the box, and swallow it directly. It is recommended to drink a glass of water after each dose and plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Likeall medicines, Fluimucil Paediatric may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Thefollowing side effects may occur:

• Rare: hypersensitivity, headache,tinnitus, tachycardia, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomatitis, abdominal pain, nausea, urticaria, rash, angioedema, pruritus, increased body temperature, hypotension.
• Rare:drowsiness, bronchospasm, respiratory distress, digestive upset.
• Very rare: allergic reactions, anaphylactic shock, haemorrhage, severe skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome, sometimes identified with at least one other drug taken simultaneously.
• Frequency not known: swelling of the face.

In the event of any alteration of the skin or mucous membranes, acetylcysteine should be discontinued immediately and medical advice sought.

If you are asthmatic or have severe respiratory disease, youshould consult adoctor before taking this medicine.

The possible sulphurous (rotten-egg) smell of the medicine is typical of the active substance, but does not indicate that the medicine is in bad condition.

If you notice any discomfort in your stomach when taking the medicine, you should stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor. Caution is advised in patients with peptic ulcer or a history of peptic ulcer.

During the first few days of treatment, you may notice an increase in mucus and phlegm, which will decrease during the course of treatment.

The active substance is acetylcysteine. Specifically, each ml of Fluimucil Paediatric contains 20 mg of acetylcysteine. The other excipients are: methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (E218), sodium benzoate (E211), disodiumedetate, carmellose sodium, saccharin sodium, sodium cyclamate, sucralose, raspberry flavouring (propylene glycol, ethanol), sodium hydroxide and purified water.

If you take more Fluimucil paediatric than you should you may experience: nausea, vomiting, heartburn and stomach pain, diarrhoea or any other side effects.

You should consult a doctor if it gets worse or if it does not improve after 5 days.
