Vicks VapoRub is a medicine in the form of an ointment that is indicated for the relief of nasal congestion and coughs caused by colds and flus. It can be used directly on the skin or diluted in water to make vapours.
It comes in a tube containing 100 g of ointment .
Suitable for use in adults and children from 6 years of age.
The recommended dosage varies according to use:
For cutaneous use : apply a thin layer of ointment on chest, back and neck. May be reapplied every 8 hours.
For inhalation : add a spoonful of Vicks Vaporub to hot (not boiling) water and breathe in the vapours for 10-15 minutes. It is recommended to cover the head with a cloth to facilitate inhalation.
Do not use Vicks VapoRub in children under 6 years of age.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: a doctor should be consulted.
Do not use if you suffer from asthma, larynx spasms, epilepsy or febrile convulsions.
Do not apply on wounded skin.
Like all medicines, VapoRub may cause side effects:
Common adverse reactions: allergic reactions, eye irritation, burning at the site of application.
The active ingredients per 1 g of Vicks VapoRub ointment are: 50 mg camphor, 50 mg turpentine essence, 27.5 mg menthol, 15 mg eucalyptus essence and 2.5 mg thymol. The other ingredients are: cedar oil, vaseline.
This medicine comes in the form of a creamy ointment with a whitish appearance. It is for external use only, so it should not be swallowed or applied to the nostrils or the rest of the face.
