It is a nasal decongestant formulated with pseudoephedrine and is indicated for the local and temporary relief of nasal congestion associated with rhinitis, the common cold and influenza.
Respidina is indicated for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Athletes should be aware that this medicine contains a component that may produce a positive result in doping control tests.
The recommended dosage is 1 tablet every 12 hours. This dose should not be exceeded.
People over 60 years of age and patients with kidney, liver or heart disease may require a lower dose, and a doctor should be consulted.
Respidin should not be taken:
If you are allergic to pseudoephedrine or any of the excipients.
People with high blood pressure, severe heart or kidney disease, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism.
If you are taking or have taken in the last two weeks antidepressant drugs of the monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) type.
During pregnancy and breast-feeding it is not recommended for use unless prescribed by a doctor.
Respidin may cause side effects, as with all other medicines, including:
Frequent: restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, tremor, anxiety, and altered taste.
Less frequent: hyperactivity, hyperexcitability, dizziness, headache, uncoordinated movements, dilated pupils, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure. Nausea, vomiting, bloody diarrhoea. Dermatitis, urticaria, skin rash. pain when urinating Increased sweating, paleness and weakness.
Rarely: nightmares, squeaking and confusion in children. Heart rhythm disturbances and slow heartbeat. Shortness of breath, diarrhoea.
In very rare cases: heart attack, and at very high doses, hallucinations, convulsions, confusion and headache.
The active substance is pseudoephedrine. Each extended-release tablet contains 120 milligrams of pseudoephedrine (as hydrochloride). The other excipients are: microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium carbonate, hydrogenated castor oil, pregelatinised corn starch, magnesium stearate, carbomers, opadry Y-1-7000.
This medicine is an oral decongestant whose tablet should be taken whole, preferably with water, although it can also be taken with food.
