What is Termalgin Cold and what is it used for?

Termalgin Cold is a medicine in the form of sachets for oral solution that is used to relieve the symptoms of colds and flus with pain, fever and nasal congestion.

It is formulated with 2 active ingredients:

  • Paracetamol: an analgesic that reduces pain and fever.
  • Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride: a nasal decongestant. It clears a blocked nose and helps you breathe more easily by reducing swelling in the nasal passages. Italso relieves sinus pressure.

Comes in a pack of 10 sachets.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 15 years of age.

Instructionsfor use

 

Dissolve the contents of one sachet in a cup of approximately 250 ml of hot water, without boiling. Drink when cooled to a temperature you find acceptable.

Do not take for more than 3 days without consulting your doctor.

The recommended dose is 1 sachet every4 or 6 hours, according to need. Do not take more than 4 sachets in 24 hours (corresponding to 2 g of paracetamol and 120 mg of pseudoephedrine).

Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours. Use the smallest dose needed to treat symptoms and for the shortest possible period of time.

 

Contraindications

Do not use Termalgin Cold:

  • In children under 15 years of age.
  • In case of allergy to paracetamol, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, menthol or any of the ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you have kidney failure, unless your doctor tells you to.
  • If you have serious heart or artery disease such as coronary artery disease or high blood pressure (hypertension), hyperthyroidism, closed-angle glaucoma (high blood pressure), hyperthyroidism, or if you are allergic to menthol or any of the ingredients in this medicine.If you have severe heart or artery disease such as coronary heart disease or high blood pressure (hypertension), hyperthyroidism, closed-angle glaucoma (high eye pressure), urinary retention, pheochromocytoma (a type of tumour of the adrenal glands near the kidneys);
  • If you are taking or have taken in the last 2 weeks monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
  • If you are being treated with tricyclic antidepressants, beta-blockers or other sympathomimetic medicines such as decongestants, appetite suppressants and amphetamine-type psychostimulants.
  • If you are taking antibiotics called furazolidone or linezolidone;
  • If you are in the first three months of pregnancy.

Side effects

As with all medicines on the market, Termalgin Resfriado may cause side effects, which does not mean that all patients will experience them.In this case, the following have been observed:

Adverse reactions arising from paracetamol:

  • Severe:allergic reactions, including shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or mouth, lips, tongue, throat, or eyes;skin rash (including rash).Skin rash(including rash, itching), skin redness;skin peeling, blisters, sores, mouth ulcers;blood problems, including unusual bleeding or bruising.
  • Rare: liver problems (liver disorders). In rare cases, altered values of liver function test parameters may be observed; sudden stomach pain or discomfort (abdominal pain).Sudden stomach pain or discomfort (diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting) or blood in your stools; sudden severe headache accompanied by nausea or vision disturbances.

Adverse reactions to pseudoephedrine:

  • Severe: high blood pressure, palpitations (rapid heartbeat); sleep disturbances, agitation, nervousness, irritability, confusion, perception of unreal things (hallucinations).Severe: high blood pressure, palpitations (fast heartbeat); sleep disturbances, agitation, nervousness, irritability, confusion, perception of unreal things (hallucinations), especially in children; skin rash (including rash, itching), reddening of the skin; difficulty urinating. This is more likely to occur in men with a swollen prostate.
  • Rare: dry mouth.
  • Frequency not known: sudden onset of fever, reddening of the skin, or many small pustules; inflammation of the colon due to insufficient blood supply (ischaemic colitis); anxiety; headache, tremor; reduced blood flow to the optic nerve (ischaemic optic neuropathy).

Precautions

Do not take with other medicines containing paracetamol. Do not take more than the recommended dose as severe liver damage may occur.

Sudden abdominal pain or rectal bleeding may occur when taking Termalgin Cold, due to inflammation of the colon (ischaemic colitis) . If these gastrointestinal symptoms occur, stop taking Termalgin Resfriado, and contact your doctor or seek medical attention immediately .

 

Compositio n

The active ingredients in Termalgin Cold are paracetamol andpseudoephedrinehydrochloride. Specifically, each sachet contains 500 mg paracetamol and 30 mgpseudoephedrinehydrochloride. The other ingredients are: sucrose, aspartame (E951), blueberry flavouring (contains soya lecithin), raspberry flavouring (contains soya lecithin), cranberry flavouring (contains soya lecithin), menthol flavouring (contains soya lecithin), green tea flavouring (contains soya lecithin), menthol flavouring (contains soya lecithin), green tea flavouring (contains soya lecithin), pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (contains soya lecithin). green tea flavouring (contains soy lecithin), citric acid anhydrous, sodium citrate (E331), sodium edetate, acesulfame potassium, maltodextrin, colloidal silica hydrate, orange yellow S (E110), Allura red AC (E129) and brilliant blue FCF (E133).

Pharmaceutical advice

 

Incorrect, high-dose and long-term use of analgesics may cause headaches that should not be treated with higher doses of analgesics.

In patients with liver disease, the dose should be reduced or the dosing interval increased.Do not exceed the maximum recommended amount.
