Buscapine is a non-prescription medicine used for the treatment of spasms of the gastrointestinal tract and genito-urinary tract in adults and children over 6 years of age. It contains 40 tablets.

Buscapine is a medicine with antispasmodic properties that acts on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal, biliary and genitourinary tract.
The active substance in Buscapine belongs to a group of medicines known as semi-synthetic alkaloids derived from belladonna, which are quaternary ammonium compounds. This medicine has an antispasmodic effect, acting on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal, biliary and genitourinary systems.
Buscapina 10 Mg, 40 film-coated tablets is intended to control spasms of the gastrointestinal, biliary and genitourinary tract in adults and children aged 6 years and over.
Take 1 to 2 film-coated tablets 3 to 5 times a day, not exceeding the maximum dose of 10 tablets a day. It should be taken orally, swallowing the contents without chewing with the aid of a glass of water.
The maximum daily dose should not exceed 100 mg of scopolamine butylbromide (10 film-coated tablets of Buscapine 10 mg film-coated tablets).
The optimal duration of symptomatic treatment depends on the indication. No limit to the duration of treatment has been established.
Buscapine should not be administered continuously or for long periods of time without knowing the cause of the pain in the abdomen.
Do not take Buscapine:
- If you are under 6 years of age.
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
- If you are allergic to scopolamine butylbromide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you suffer from narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, mechanical stenosis of the gastrointestinal tract or pylorus, intestinal paralysis or tachycardia, megacolon or myasthenia gravis.
Buscapine may cause side effects, as with all medicines, but this does not mean that everyone will experience them. These effects are:
- Rare: skin reactions such as itching or hives, abnormal sweating, dry mouth.
- Rare: urinary retention.
- Unknown frequency: anaphylactic reaction, anaphylactic shock, dyspnoea, hypersensitivity or erythema.
Take special care if you have ever had increased eye strain, tachycardia, intestinal or urinary obstruction, or prostatic hypertrophy. Consult your doctor in these cases.
