Medication for the symptomatic treatment of occasional acute diarrhoea in adults and children from 12 years of age.
Pack of 20 capsules.
Fortasec 2 mg is a medicine formulated with loperamide, an active substance used for the treatment of occasional acute diarrhoea . Its action softens bowel movements and secretions, thereby reducing watery stools.
It comes in a pack of 20 capsules.
Fortasec contains only loperamide, an active ingredient that works by reducing intestinal motility to stop occasional acute diarrhoea. On the other hand,Fortasec Plus, which combines loperamide with simethicone, not only helps to stop diarrhoea, but also excess gas, bloating and associated cramping.
Fortasec for diarrhoea is suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Take one capsule, with a glass of water to make swallowing easier.
How often should Fortasec be taken? The dose of Fortasec varies depending on the patient's weight and age:
In adults: initially take 2 capsules together and continue with another capsule after each bowel movement, with a maximum of 8 capsules a day.
In adolescents (12 to 18 years): start by taking one Fortasec tablet and take another capsule after each bowel movement. In this case, the maximum number of capsules depends on body weight:
From 27 kg: Maximum 4 capsules.
From 34 kg: Maximum 5 capsules.
From 40 kg: Maximum 6 capsules.
From 47 kg: Maximum 7 capsules.
The effect of Fortasec usually starts within 1 to 4 hours after the first intake, although this may vary depending on the presentation and the patient.
In most cases, the effect starts to be felt around one hour after administration in the oral freeze-dried presentations (Fortasec Flas). For hard capsules, the onset of effect may take up to 5 hours, as absorption is slower compared to oral freeze-dried presentations.
How long does the effect of Fortasec last? The duration of effect is usually maintained for about 24 hours.
