What is Ultra Adsorb and what is it used for?

It is a medicine in capsule form with activated charcoal, an active ingredient that acts as an:

  • Antidiarrhoeal: inactivating toxins and microorganisms in the digestive tract, through a physical adsorption process.
  • Antiflatulent: relieving gas symptoms. Activated charcoal acts by adsorbing gasparticles and substances due to fermentations that cause bloating and flatulence.

Itis therefore indicated for the symptomatic treatment ofoccasional diarrhoea and gas (aerophagia, meteorism, flatulence).

It comes in a pack of 30 capsules.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

Instructions for use

The capsules should be swallowed with water. Do not drink other beverages such as coffee, tea, wine, etc., or ice cream or sherbet, which reduce the action of the medicine.

The recommended dosage varies according to the patient's needs:

  • As an antidiarrhoeal: 2-3 capsules, each time the symptoms appear.
  • As anantiflatulent: 2-3 capsules at least half an hour after the end of meals or at the onset of symptoms .
 
 

Precautions

If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. The use of medicines during pregnancy may be dangerous for the embryo or foetus and should be monitored by your doctor.

Contraindications

Do not use Ultra Adsorb:

  • In children under 12 years of age, except under express medical advice.
  • In case of allergy or hypersensitivity to activated charcoal or to any of the other ingredients of this medicinal product.
  • In case of absence of bowel sounds, intestinal perforation, intestinal obstruction, recent digestive surgery or if you are at risk of stomach or intestinal bleeding.

Side effects

Likeall medicines, Ultra Adsorb may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.

During the period ofuse of activated charcoal, the following side effects have been observed, the frequency of which cannot be established with certainty: nausea and vomiting.

Compositio n

Each Ultra Adsorb capsule contains the active substance: 200 mg activated charcoal. The other excipients are: gelatine, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide black (E172 ) .

Pharmaceutical advice

If you take moreUltra-Adsorb than you should, poisoning should not occur because it is not absorbed and is well tolerated orally. Long-term use and high doses may decrease the absorption of enzymes, vitamins and minerals, which can lead to malnutrition.

If symptoms worsen or persist after 2 days of treatment or if you have a high fever, you should consult a doctor.
