Salvacoline 0,2 mg/ml Oral Solution 100 ml

Salvacoline is an anti-diarrhoeal medicine that reduces bowel movements and secretions, resulting in a decrease in liquid stools.

It comes in a 100 ml bottle.

Formulated forthe symptomatictreatment of acute non-specific diarrhoea in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

The recommended dosage varies according to the age of the patient:

• Adults: take 20 ml of oral solution (4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) as an initial dose, followed by 10 ml of oral solution (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each diarrhoeal stool up to a maximum of 80 ml of oral solution daily (16 mg loperamide hydrochloride).
• Adolescents over 12 years of age: administer 10 ml of oral solution (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) as an initial dose, followed by 10 ml of oral solution (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each diarrhoeal stool.In children the maximum daily dose should be related to body weight:

Like all medicines, Salvacoline oral solution can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you experience any of the following side effects, stop treatment and seek medical advice:  hypersensitivity reactions (redness, itching or swelling of the skin, difficulty in swallowing or breathing), blistering or severe peeling of the skin, intestinal paralysis (no bowel function).lysis of the bowel (absence of bowel movements or paralytic ileus), abdominal swelling (distension), severe abdominal pain, dilatation of the large bowel (megacolon) and loss or decrease in the level of consciousness.

The following effects have also been observed:

• Frequent: constipation, nausea, gas (flatulence), headache (cephalalgia) and dizziness.
• Rare: vomiting, pain or unpleasant sensation in the upper-middle part of the stomach (dyspepsia), drymouth,abdominal pain ordiscomfort, drowsinessandskindiscolouration(rash).

The active substance in Salvacoline is loperamide hydrochloride 0.2 mg/ml. The other excipients are:Sodium saccharin (E954ii), Sodium cyclamate (E952ii), Polyoxyethylenecastor oil , Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), Propylparahydroxybenzoate (E216), Propylene glycol(E1520), Glycerol(E422), Citric acid (E330), Citric acid (E340), Citric acid (E340).Citric acid (E330),Sodium hydroxide (E524), Disodiumedetate, Strawberry flavour, Ponceau red (4R) (E-124) and Purified water.

If you forget to take Salvacoline,do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
