It is a medicine formulated with loperamide for the treatment of occasional acute diarrhoea. Therefore, its action softens intestinal movements and secretions, thus reducing liquid stools.

Fortasec is a medicine used to treat diarrhoea on an occasional and occasional basis.
Suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Dosage varies according to the patient's weight and age.
Adults: initially 2 capsules together and continue with one capsule after each bowel movement with a maximum of 8 capsules per day.
Adolescents aged 12 to 18 years: initially one capsule and continue with one capsule after each bowel movement. In this case the maximum number of capsules will depend on body weight:

27 kg and above: Maximum 4 capsules
From 34 kg and above: Maximum 5 capsules
40 kg and over: Maximum 6 capsules
47 kg and over: Maximum 7 capsules
Do not use Fortasec capsules in case of: high fever, blood in stools, ulcerative colitis, severe diarrhoea after antibiotics, diarrhoea caused by an infection (Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter).
Like any medicine, it is contraindicated in people with allergy to its active ingredient or any of its excipients.
Treatment should be discontinued promptly and a doctor should be consulted if constipation, abdominal bloating or absence of bowel movements occur.
Consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
If you have an intolerance to certain sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Fortasec capsules may cause side effects, as with all medicines. This does not mean that everyone will suffer from them. In this case, the following have been observed:
Frequency not known: upper abdominal pain; abdominal pain radiating to the back; tenderness when touching the abdomen; fever; rapid pulse; nausea; vomiting.
If any side effects occur, stop taking the medicine and consult your doctor.
Patients with diarrhoea should drink plenty of fluids, to avoid dehydration manifested by dry mouth, excessive thirst, decreased urination, wrinkled skin, dizziness, lightheadedness. This is especially important in children and the elderly. Do not take on a recurrent basis, it may slow intestinal transit. If diarrhoea persists or occurs every few days, seek medical advice.
