Bemolan 2000 mg Gel 30 Sachets

It is a medicine belonging to the group of so-called antacids thanks to its formula containing magaldrate, an active substance which, once in the stomach, is transformed into aluminium and magnesium salts to regulate stomach acidity.

It is therefore used for the symptomatic relief of occasional gastric discomfort related to hyperacidity, heartburn and burning.

It comes in a convenient pack containing 30 sachets.

Suitable for adults over 18 years of age.

Shake the sachet, tear it and take the contents directly into the mouth.

The recommended dose is 800 mg to 2000 mg of gel (1 sachet of 800 mg or 1 sachet of 2000 mg) orally, depending on the intensity of the symptoms, one to two hours after the main meals.

In certain cases, an additional sachet may be taken before going to bed.

Do not use Bemolan:

• In children under 18 years of age.

• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to magaldrate or any of the ingredients of this medicine.

• If you have bowel obstruction.

• If you have severe kidney failure or low blood phosphorus levels (hypophosphatemia).

• If you have high blood levels of magnesium.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Like all medicines, Bemolan may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, the side effects observed are generally mild and transient. Especially at high doses, constipation and diarrhoea may occur. However, at the recommended dose such manifestations are very rare.

Inform your doctor as soon as possible if you notice any of the following symptoms:

• Frequent: loose stools

• Very rare: diarrhoea and hypermagnesaemia

• Frequency not known: neurotoxicity, encephalopathy, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and hypophosphataemia.

The active substance in Bemolan is magaldrate. Each 12.5 ml sachet contains 2000 mg magaldrate. The other ingredients are: gum arabic, hypromellose, sodium cyclamate, simethicone, methylcellulose, sorbic acid, silver sulphate, chlorhexidine digluconate (20% aqueous solution), peppermint flavouring, purified water.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or may need to take any other medicines.

Before swallowing, it is important to remove the Bemolan sachet properly by pressing in different directions before opening.

Take this medicine 1 to 2 hours after main meals. Concomitant use of antacids containing aluminium together with acidic drinks (such as fruit juices, wine, etc.) may increase the intestinal absorption of aluminium.
