Gaviscon 24 Strawberry Flavour Chewable Tablets

It is a medicine in the form of strawberry-flavoured chewable tablets used to treat the symptoms of hyperacidity and heartburn caused by excessive acid reflux. Its mechanism of action works in two distinct ways:

• On the one hand, it forms a barrier in the stomach that prevents the burning in the pit of the stomach caused by reflux.

• On the other hand, it neutralises excess stomach acid.

It is intended for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

The recommended dose of Gaviscon Strawberry is 2 to 4 tablets as needed, 1 hour after meals and before bedtime, without exceeding the maximum dose of 16 tablets a day.

It is administered orally by chewing them.

Do not use Gaviscon Strawberry flavour:

• In case of allergy to any of the components present in this medicine.
• In case of severe renal insufficiency or kidney stones.
• In patients with high blood calcium or low phosphate levels.
• In patients with elevated urinary calcium levels.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine:

• If you have mild or moderate kidney problems.
• If you suffer from constipation or haemorrhoids.
• If you are going to have any kind of blood test.
• If you are taking other medicines.
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. This medicine may be used during pregnancy as recommended by your doctor.

As with all medicines, Gaviscon strawberry flavour may cause side effects, which does not mean that everybody will experience them. In this case, the frequency of occurrence is unknown, although the following side effects have been observed:

• Allergic reactions, rash, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, mouth or throat and anaphylactic shock.
• Increased blood calcium levels
• Constipation, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, confusion, thirst, dehydration.

The active ingredients of Gaviscon strawberry flavour are: 250 mg sodium alginate, 133.5 mg sodium hydrogencarbonate (bicarbonate) and 80 mg calcium carbonate. The other excipients are: macrogol, mannitol (E-421), aspartame (E-951), magnesium stearate, xylitol DC (containing sodium carmellose), strawberry flavouring (containing corn starch, vegetable oil, propylene glycol (E-1520)), iron oxide red.

It is recommended that Gaviscon Strawberry flavour be taken approximately 2 hours apart from other medicines to avoid interfering with them. As with all medicines that contain calcium in their formula, they should not be taken with large amounts of milk or dairy products.

If after 7 days of treatment the symptoms do not improve or worsen, seek medical advice.
