Gaviscon sachets is a medicine for the symptomatic treatment of hyperacidity of the stomach and heartburn caused by acid reflux.
It contains 24 sachets of oral suspension.
It is a medicine that belongs to the group of so-called other agents that works against peptic ulcer and gastro-oesophageal reflux. It is therefore used for the relief of symptoms of hyperacidity and heart burn caused by acid reflux.
Its mechanism of action acts in two distinct ways:
On the one hand, it forms a barrier in the stomach that prevents the burning in the pit of the stomach caused by reflux.
On the other hand, it neutralises the excess acid in the stomach.
It is intended for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
The recommended dose of Gaviscon is 2 to 4 sachets as needed, 1 hour after meals and before bedtime, without exceeding the maximum dose of 16 sachets per day.
Do not use Gaviscon:
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
If you have severe kidney failure or kidney stones.
If you have high blood calcium or low phosphate levels
If you have high urine calcium levels in your urine
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before you start taking this medicine:
If you have mild to moderate kidney problems.
If you have constipation or haemorrhoids.
If you are going to undergo any kind of blood test.
If you are taking other medicines
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. In this case, it can be used during pregnancy following your doctor's recommendations.
Like any other medicine, Gaviscon mint flavour may cause side effects, although this does not mean that everyone will experience them. In this case, the frequency of occurrence is unknown:
Allergic reactions, rash, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, mouth or throat and anaphylactic shock.
Increased calcium levels in the blood
Constipation, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, confusion, thirst, dehydration.
The active ingredients of Gaviscon mint flavour are: 500 mg sodium alginate, 267 mg sodium hydrogencarbonate (bicarbonate) and 160 mg calcium carbonate. The other ingredients are: carbomer, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E-218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E-216), saccharin sodium, natural peppermint flavouring, sodium hydroxide and purified water.
It is advisable to take Gaviscon sachets approximately 2 hours apart from other medicines to avoid interfering with them.
As with all medicines containing calcium, they should not be taken with large quantities of milk or dairy products.
If after 7 days of treatment the symptoms do not improve or worsen, seek medical advice.
