Adults over 18 years of age.
The recommended dosage is one 60 mg capsule three times a day and this dose should not be exceeded. It is important to accompany it with a low-calorie diet and exercise. It is recommended to start a diet and exercise programme before starting treatment with Alli. While taking orlistat, the patient should follow a nutritionally balanced diet, in which approximately 30% of calories come from fat. Treatment should not exceed 6 months.
It is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to orlistat or any of the excipients. During pregnancy and lactation its use is contraindicated.
Patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome, concurrent treatment with cyclosporine, patients with cholestasis and concurrent treatment with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants cannot use it.
Most of the common side effects associated with the use of Alli (e.g. gas with or without oily spotting, more frequent bowel movements and loose stools) are the result of its mechanism of action, so high-fat foods should be avoided.
Serious side effects: severe allergic reaction, rectal bleeding, diverticulitis, pancreatitis, skin blisters, hepatitis and oxalate nephropathy.
The active substance is orlistat. Each hard capsule contains 60 mg of orlistat.
