Alli 60 mg 120 capsules

Alli is a medicine whose active ingredient is orlistat, indicated for weight loss used in people with a body mass index, BMI, ≥28 kg/m2, this medicine should be combined with a slightly low-calorie, low-fat diet.

Adults over 18 years of age.

The recommended dosage is one 60 mg capsule three times a day and this dose should not be exceeded. It is important to accompany it with a low-calorie diet and exercise. It is recommended to start a diet and exercise programme before starting treatment with Alli. While taking orlistat, the patient should follow a nutritionally balanced diet, in which approximately 30% of calories come from fat. Treatment should not exceed 6 months.

It is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to orlistat or any of the excipients. During pregnancy and lactation its use is contraindicated.

Patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome, concurrent treatment with ciclosporin, patients with cholestasis and concurrent treatment with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants cannot use it.

Most of the common side effects associated with the use of Alli (e.g. gas with or without oily spotting, more frequent bowel movements and loose stools) are the result of its mechanism of action, so high-fat foods should be avoided.

Serious side effects: severe allergic reaction, rectal bleeding, diverticulitis, pancreatitis, skin blisters, hepatitis and oxalate nephropathy.

• Very common side effects (more than 1 in 10 people): sudden bowel movements, oily or greasy stools, loose stools, and gas (flatulence) with or without oily spotting.
• Frequent adverse effects (1 in 10 people): more frequent bowel movements, faecal incontinence, fluid or liquid stools, abdominal pain and anxiety.

The active substance is orlistat. Each hard capsule contains 60 mg of orlistat.

This medicine is widely used for weight loss as it accelerates the slimming process. It is important to follow the instructions on the package leaflet and not to take it if you do not eat any fat at mealtimes, e.g. fruit breakfast, as it only acts on the absorption of fats.

It is not recommended to take it with very fatty meals as the side effects will be accentuated.
