Adults over 18 years of age.
The recommended dosage is one 60 mg capsule three times a day. This dose should not be exceeded. It is recommended that it be accompanied by a low-calorie diet and exercise. In addition, it is advisable to begin a diet and exercise programme before starting treatment. While taking orlistat, the patient should follow a nutritionally balanced diet, with approximately 30% of calories coming from fat. Treatment should not exceed 6 months.
This medicine should not be taken if you are allergic to orlistat or any of the excipients. During pregnancy and lactation, its use is contraindicated.
Patients with chronic malabsorption syndrome, concurrent treatment with ciclosporin, patients with cholestasis and concurrent treatment with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants should not use it.
Most of the common side effects (e.g. gas with or without oily spotting, more frequent stools and loose stools) are the result of its mechanism of action, so high-fat foods should be avoided.
Serious side effects: severe allergic reaction, rectal bleeding, diverticulitis, pancreatitis, skin blisters, hepatitis and oxalate nephropathy.
