Elimens is a medicine in capsule form containing orlistat, an active ingredient widely used in weight loss processes in people with a body mass index (BMI) of 28 kg/m2 or more.

The use of this drug should be combined with a slightly low-calorie, low-fat diet.

It comes in a convenient 84-capsule pack.

Suitable for use by those over 18 years of age.

Take 1 capsule of 60 mg, 3 times a day, with each main meal. In no case should this amount be exceeded.

Treatment should be accompanied by a low-calorie diet and exercise. It is for this reason that it is recommended to start a diet and exercise programme before starting to take Elimens as, while it is being used, the patient should follow a diet in which around 30% of calories come from fat.

The maximum duration of treatment should not exceed 6 months.

Contraindications

Do not use Elimens:

• In children under 18 years of age.

• In case of allergy to orlistat or any of the excipients present in this medicine.

• In people with chronic malabsorption syndrome orcholestasis.

• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

• If you are undergoing simultaneous treatment with ciclosporin, warfarin or other oral anticoagulants.

Elimens may cause side effects, as with all medicines. This does not mean that all people will experience side effects. In this case, most of the problems are the result of its mechanism of action, which is why high-fat foods should be avoided.

• Very common: Sudden bowel movements, Oily or greasy stools, loose stools, and gas (flatulence) with or without oily spotting.

• Frequent: More frequent stools, faecal incontinence, fluid or liquid stools, abdominal pain and anxiety.

• Serious: severe allergic reaction, rectal bleeding, diverticulitis, pancreatitis, skin blisters, hepatitis and oxalate nephropathy.

Each Elimens hard capsule contains 60 mg of orlistat as the main active substance.
