Symptomatic treatment of dry cough not accompanied by expectoration in adults and children from 6 years of age.
Syrup of 200 ml.
Formerly called Romilar, it is an antitussive syrup that inhibits the dry cough reflex, a cough that is not accompanied by expectoration. Its formula contains dextromethorphan, the active ingredient in this medicine, which controls nervous or irritative coughs.
It is intended for use in adults and children from 6 years of age who are looking for relief from the symptoms of dry cough.
The recommended dose varies according to the age of the patient:
- Adults and adolescents from 12 years of age: 5 ml every 4 hours, or 10 ml every 6-8 hours depending on the intensity of the cough.
- Children from 6 to 12 years: 2.5 ml 7.5 mg every 4 hours or 5 ml every 6-8 hours depending on the intensity of the cough.
The recommended daily dose should not be exceeded.
Propalcof syrup should not be taken:
- If you are under 6 years of age.
- If you are allergic to dextromethorphan hydrobromide or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you have a serious lung disease.
- If you have asthmatic cough or cough accompanied by abundant secretions.
- If you are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicine for the previous 2 weeks.
Propalcof Syrup may have side effects, as with other medicines:
- Nervous system disorders: drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, involuntary muscle contractions, mental confusion and headache.
- Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal discomfort such as stomach pain, constipation.
- Ear and labyrinth disorders: sensation of vertigo.
- Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reaction.
- Psychiatric disorders: visual hallucinations and confusion.
- Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: rash, urticaria, pruritus, erythema, allergic dermatitis.
Each 5 ml of Propalcof syrup contains 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide, the main active substance of this medicinal product. The other excipients are: Sucrose, sodium benzoate (E-211), sorbitol 70% solution, sweet orange oil, lemon tetraroma, coriander oil, citric acid monohydrate, caramel colouring (E-150c), anhydrous ethanol, purified water.
Propalcof syrup is a medicine that acts on the nervous irritative cough reflex by inhibiting it. Being an analogue of the opium alkaloid, it will produce a relaxation in the throat to inhibit the cough reflex.
It is taken every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the intensity or persistence of the cough, with the help of a measuring spoon for oral administration. It is advisable to avoid citrus juice while using this medicine.
