Propalcof Oral Drops Solution 20 ml

It is a medicine formulated with dextromethorphan, an active ingredient with antitussive action that inhibits the dry or nervous cough reflex.

It is intended for use in adults and children from 2 years of age who are seeking relief from the symptoms of a dry cough, that is, a cough that is not accompanied by expectoration.

The recommended dose varies according to the age of the patient:

- Adults and adolescents from 12 years of age: take 1 ml (20 drops) every 4 hours, or 2 ml (40 drops) every 6-8 hours, depending on the intensity of the cough. Do not exceed a dose of 120 mg per day.

- Children aged 6 to 12 years: administer 0.5 ml (10 drops) every 4 hours, or 1 ml (20 drops) every 6-8 hours depending on the intensity of the cough. Do not exceed a dose of 60 mg per day.

- Children from 2 to 6 years of age: give 0.25 ml (5 drops) every 4 hours, or 0.5 ml (10 drops) every 6-8 hours depending on the intensity of the cough itself. Do not exceed a dose of 30 mg per day (40 drops).

Note: Propalcof drops can be dissolved in a little water, milk, tea or fruit juices, except grapefruit or orange juice. Do not exceed the dose of 6 daily intakes.

Do not take Romilar if you are under any of the following conditions:

- Children under 2 years of age.

- Allergy or hypersensitivity to dextromethorphan hydrobromide or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

- Severe lung disease, asthmatic cough or cough with abundant secretions.

- Liver or kidney disease.

- Treatment with antidepressant or antipsychotic medicines (such as fluorexin or paroxetine), as well as drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease(Selegiline). Also not with bupropion, used for smoking cessation, linezolid, an antibacterial drug, or procarbazine, used to treat cancer.

- Do not drink orange or grapefruit juice during treatment as this may increase the likelihood of adverse reactions.

As with all medicines, Propalcof syrup may cause side effects:

-Gastrointestinal disorders: stomach pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting.

- Ear disorders: dizziness.

- Skin disorders: urticaria, rash, allergic dermatitis, pruritus, erythema.

- Immune system disorders: hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reaction with skin rash, urticaria, oedema, pruritus and cardio-respiratory distress.

- Psychiatric disorders: visual hallucinations and confusion.

- Nervous system disorders: fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness, involuntary muscle contractions, mental confusion and headache.

Each ml of the solution contains 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide as the main active substance. The other excipients are: propylene glycol, anhydrous ethanol, flavourings (coriander oil, sweet orange essential oil, tetraroma lime), ricinoleate, dextromethorphan hydrobromide (dextromethorphan hydrobromide).n), macrogolglycerol ricinoleate (cremophor EL), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E-218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E-216), saccharin sodium, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

Romilar drops is a medicine that acts on the reflex of irritative cough with a nervous component, inhibiting it. As it is an analogue of the opium alkaloid, it will produce a relaxation in the throat and, therefore, an inhibition of the cough reflex.

Its use is quite simple, as the appropriate dose can be added to milk, juices (non-citrus) or water for oral administration. However, it is recommended to avoid citrus juice while using this medicine.
