It is a topical medicine containing heparin sodium, an active ingredient formulated for the local symptomatic relief of superficial venous disorders, such as heaviness in the legs with varicose veins or superficial haematomas caused by bruising.
It comes in a tube containing 60 g of gel.
Intended for use by adults only, unless prescribed by a doctor.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult before use.
The recommended dose is 1 to 3 applications per day on the affected area, massaging gently until completely absorbed.
Unless the hands are the site of treatment, wash them properly after each use.
Do not use Menaven:
In children under 18 years of age.
In case of allergy to heparin sodium or any of the excipients.
On mucous membranes, ulcers and open or infected wounds.
Menaven gel may cause side effects, as is the case with all medicines, which does not mean that everyone will suffer from them. In this case, the following have been observed:
Most frequent adverse reactions: contact dermatitis, local irritation, local allergic phenomena and pruritus.
Less frequent adverse reactions: appearance of reddening of the skin, skin dryness, burning, cold sensation and urticaria.
Very rarely, the possibility of skin necrosis at the site of application has been described.
The active substance of Menaven Gel is heparin sodium. Each gram of gel contains 1000 IU of heparin sodium (equivalent to 5.56 mg). The other excipients are: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), carbomer, 96% ethanol, diethanolamine, lavender essence and purified water.
Menaven comes as a fast-absorbing, clear, lavender-scented gel in an aluminium tube containing 60 grams of gel. It provides a pleasant cooling sensation after use.
