Strepsils with Lidocaine, 24 Lozenges

Strepsil is a tablet medicine that combines the action of two antiseptics and a local anaesthetic, lidocaine, for the relief of sore throat pain.

It is therefore indicated for the relief of symptoms of mild infections of the mouth and throat, with or without fever.

It comes in a convenient pack of 24 suckable tablets.

Take one Strepsils Lidocaine throat lozenge every 2-3 hours, not to exceed the maximum dose of 8 a day. Allow the lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth. Do not chew, bite or swallow directly. To avoid local irritation, swish the lozenge in the mouth while it dissolves.

Suitable for use by adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.

Contraindications

Do not use Strepsils with lidocaine:

• In children under 12 years of age.

• In case of allergy to the active substance or to any of the excipients present in the composition of this medicinal product.

• This medicine contains sucrose and glucose (you should consult your doctor if you have an intolerance to some sugars), sodium (special care in hypertension), wheat starch (special care in coeliac patients) and sulphur dioxide (may cause allergic reactions).

• Special care during pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects

As with all medicines, Strepsils with lidocaine may cause side effects. In this case, the following have been observed:

• Frequent: irritation of the tongue and/or mouth and allergic reactions such as skin rash or redness.

• Very common: abdominal pain, nausea or mouth discomfort.

The active ingredients of Strepsils with lidocaine are: 0.6 mg amylmethacresol, 1.2 mg 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol and 2 mg lidocaine hydrochloride.The other excipients are: tartaric acid, levomenthol, pipermint oil (contains d-limonene), star anise oil (contains anisyl alcohol, d-limonene and linalool), quinoline yellow (E-104), indomethanol (contains d-limonene and linalool), quinoline yellow (contains d-limonene and linalona yellow (E-104), indigotine (E-132), saccharin sodium (E-954), sucrose, liquid glucose (contains wheat starch and sulphur dioxide (E-220)).

• This medicine comes in the form of blue-green sucking tablets with a refreshing mint flavour.
• The tablets are for oropharyngeal use and should be sucked slowly, without chewing or swallowing, to allow the local action to take effect in the affected area.
• Do not use this medicine for more than 3 days without consulting your doctor.
• The use of Strepsils during pregnancy should be considered with caution. There are insufficient data on the safety of Strepsils and pregnancy in women, and although it is not expected to be harmful, it is recommended to avoid its use as a precautionary measure.
