It is a medicine that belongs to the group of medicines containing combinations and complexes of aluminium, calcium and magnesium . It is formulated with calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, two active ingredients that neutralise excess stomach acid.
It is therefore used to treat the symptoms of heartburn and acidity in both adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Who it is intended for
Suitable for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
The usual dose is as follows: take 1 or 2 tablets, 1 hour after meals and before going to bed, the maximum dose being 6 tablets a day.
Do not take Rennie mint flavour:
In children under 12 years of age.
In case of allergy to any of the active ingredients or to any of the components of this medicine.
If you suffer from severe renal insufficiency, calcium hypercalcaemia and hypophosphataemia.
If you have a history of calcium kidney stones.
If you suffer from hypercalciuria.
Like all medicines, Rennie mint flavour may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, when used at the recommended doses, side effects are not expected. However, the following has been observed:
Allergic reactions have been reported very rarely.
Prolonged use of high doses may lead to hypermagnesaemia or hypercalcaemia and gastrointestinal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting), muscle weakness.
Constipation has occurred in some cases. Flatulence (gas), belching and bloating may also occur.
Abnormal muscle fatigue especially in patients with impaired renal function.
Specific symptoms of alkaline milk syndrome may include taste dysfunction, headache, kidney problems, fatigue and lumps under the skin.
Each mint-flavoured Rennie chewable tablet contains the following active ingredients: calcium carbonate 680 mg and magnesium carbonate 80 mg. The other excipients are: sorbitol (E-420), pregelified corn starch, sodium carboxymethyl starch (type A) (from potato starch), talc, magnesium stearate, light liquid paraffin, peppermint flavouring, saccharin sodium.
The tablets of this medicine should be chewed or dissolved in the mouth slowly, but never swallowed.
