Periactin is a medicine intended to treat and improve the symptoms of allergic conditions. It may also be indicated for the prevention of migraine and other vascular headaches.
It comes in a practical pack of 30 tablets.
Intended for use in adults and children from 2 years of age.
The recommended dosage varies according to age and type of treatment:
Adults:
Allergic process: 1 tablet every 8 hours (3 times a day).
Migraine: 1 tablet at the onset of symptoms, which may be taken again after half an hour. Maintenance treatment may be started with 1 tablet every 6 hours.
14 to 18 years: 1 tablet every 8 hours (3 times a day).
From 7 to 14 years: 1 tablet every 8 hours (3 times a day).
From 2 to 6 years: 1/2 tablet every 12 hours (2 times a day).
Do not take Periactin:
In children under 2 years of age.
In cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
In patients with asthma, porphyria, hereditary lactose or galactose intolerance, Lapp's lactase insufficiency or glucose or galactose malabsorption.
Caution when driving and operating machinery as drowsiness may occur.
During pregnancy and lactation, it is necessary to take under medical decision.
Like all medicines, Periactin may cause side effects:
Increased appetite, weight gain, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhoea, tachycardia.
The active substance in Periactin is 4 mg cyproheptadine hydrochloride. The other excipients are: lactose and starch.
This medicine should be taken with food and not on an empty stomach.
It is advisable not to sunbathe during treatment.
Any chronic pathology of the patient should be reported to the doctor before starting treatment.
