It is a medicine that belongs to the group of so-called "proton pump inhibitors", which reduce the acid produced by the stomach. It is therefore used for the short-term relief and treatment of reflux symptoms (such as heartburn or acid regurgitation).
It comes in a pack of 14 capsules.
Suitable for use in adults over 18 years of age.
The usual dose is 1 capsule per day with a little water (preferably in the morning, either on an empty stomach or with food). It is advisable to maintain the treatment for 14 days, after which, if there is no improvement, consult a doctor.
The capsules should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing.
Do not use Omeprazol Farmamabo:
In children under 18 years of age .
If you are allergic to any of the components of this medicine or any derivative of them.
If you are allergic to medicines containing proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole).
If you are taking a medicine containing nelfinavir (used for HIV infection).
Omeprazole Farmamabo may mask the symptoms of other illnesses. Therefore, consult your doctor immediately if you experience any complaints before you start taking omeprazole or during treatment.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Like any medicine, Omeprazole Farmamabo can cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.
If you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects, stop taking omeprazole and seek medical advice immediately:
Sudden wheezing
Swelling of the lips, tongue and throat or of the body
Skin rash
Fainting or difficulty swallowing (severe allergic reaction).
Reddening of the skin with blistering or peeling.
Yellowing of the skin
Dark urine and tiredness, which may be symptoms of liver problems.
Other side effects are:
Common side effects
Headache.
Effects on the stomach or intestine: diarrhoea, stomach pain, constipation and gas.
Nausea or vomiting.
Benign polyps in the stomach.
Rare side effects
Swelling of the feet and ankles.
Insomnia
Dizziness, tingling sensation, drowsiness.
Feeling of spinning (vertigo).
Changes in blood tests used to check liver function.
Skin rash, itching and rashes.
Feeling of general malaise and lack of energy.
Rare side effects
Blood problems
Allergic reactions, sometimes very severe.
Agitation, confusion or depression.
Taste alterations.
Visual problems, such as blurred vision.

Very rare side effects
Blood count alterations

Inflammation in the intestine (causing diarrhoea).
Hypomagnesaemia
Skin rash, possibly with joint pain.
In very rare cases omeprazole may affect the white blood cells in the blood and cause immunodeficiency. If you are suffering from an infection with symptoms such as fever with a severely deteriorated general condition or fever with symptoms of local infection, such as pain in the neck, throat or mouth or difficulty in urinating, you should consult your doctor as soon as possible for a blood test to rule out a lack of white blood cells (agranulocytosis).
The active substance in Omeprazol Farmamabo is omeprazole. This medicine contains 20 mg of omeprazole . The other ingredients are sugar spheres (contains sucrose and maize starch), hypromellose, talc, titanium dioxide (E-171), disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, thedihydrate, sodium lauryl sulphate, polysorbate 80, copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate, copolymer of methacrylic acid and methyl methacrylate, triethyl citrate.
Capsule excipients: gelatin, titanium dioxide (E-171). Printing ink: iron oxide black (E-172), potassium hydroxide and shellac.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, as omeprazole is an active substance that interacts with a large number of medicines.
When taking the capsules, it is very important not to chew or crush them. If the capsules cannot be swallowed, they can be opened and the contents mixed with water or fruit juice (do not mix with milk or carbonated water).
It may be necessary to take the capsules for 2-3 days at a time to improve symptoms.
If after a period of 14 days the symptoms do not improve or worsen, consult a doctor.
