Gelocatil 1g, 10 Tablets

Gelocatil 1 g is a medicine for use in febrile processes and processes involving mild to moderate pain.

It comes in a pack of 10 tablets.

Suitable for use in adults weighing more than 50 kg.

The dosage of Gelocatil 1 g is as follows: take one tablet every 6-8 hours, without exceeding the maximum of 3 g/day. It is advisable to take it without food in the stomach, as this increases the absorption time. For sore throat, it should not be taken for more than 2 days without medical evaluation.

The recommended dose should be reduced in the following cases:

In case of renal insufficiency, reduce by 25%. If glomerular filtration rate 10-15 ml/min, take 500 mg every 6 hours, if less than 10 ml/min administer 500 mg every 8 hours.

In patients with hepatic insufficiency, the maximum daily dose should be 2 g per day, spaced 8 hours apart.

In alcoholics, special care should be taken, the maximum possible dose is always 2 g/day.

Gelocatil 1 g is contraindicated in some cases, such as those described below:

• In minors or those weighing less than 50 kg (who should use other more appropriate doses).
• It should not be used if you are hypersensitive to paracetamol or any of the excipients, in hepatocellular disorders, or phenylketonuria.
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding and have not previously consulted a doctor.

• Special care should be taken in patients with chronic alcoholism, renal insufficiency, heart failure, pulmonary disorders and anaemia, among others.
• No problems have been reported in pregnant women, although a doctor should always be consulted before use.
• No problems have been reported in breast-feeding, although a doctor should always be consulted before use, as maximum concentrations of 10-15 microlitres/ml in milk 2 hours after ingestion have been found.
• A doctor should be consulted if you are taking medicines such as chloramphenicol, propranolol, probenecid, oral anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, loop diuretics,
  metoclopramide, domperidone, rifampicin, lamotrigine, isoniazid, among others, as the plasma levels of these or of paracetamol may be affected, increasing or decreasing, causing toxicity or relatively shielding the effect.

Gelocatil 1 g may cause side effects, as is the case with all medicines on the market. In this case, the following have been observed: hypersensitivity reactions (urticaria, anaphylactic shock), general malaise, agranulocytosis, hypoglycaemia, increased transaminases, hepatotoxicity, cloudy urine, among others. It may also cause hypotension.

Each Gelocatil tablet contains 1 g of paracetamol as the active substance. The other excipients are: magnesium stearate, povidone, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium starch glycolate (Type A) and pregelatinised starch.

In case of fever or pain, take 1 or more Gelocatil tablets a day as directed above.

If the fever lasts longer than 2 or 3 consecutive days, the treatment should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted. On the other hand, if the pain persists for more than 5 days, treatment should be discontinued. In both cases, medical intervention and re-evaluation for treatment adjustment is required.
