What is Ibucalm 50 mg/g and what is it used for?

Ibucalm is a menthol gel medicine indicated for relieving painful symptoms caused by knocks, strains, muscle and joint pain.

It comes in a convenient 60 g pack.

Who it is intended for

Its use is indicated for adults and those over 12 years of age.

Instructions for use

Apply Ibucalm to the affected area 3 to 4 times a day, massaging lightly to promote the penetration of the drug. It is advisable to apply a little heat to the area beforehand, to improve the penetration of the gel and the effect.

Contraindications

Do not use Ibucalm:

  • In children under 12 years of age.
  • On wounded or open skin.
  • On very large areas of skin.
  • In case of acute adverse reactions due to the use of drugs derived from salicylic acid or other derivatives of NSAIDs such as asthma, rhinitis, bronchospasm, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, urticaria.
  • Do not use occlusive dressings during treatment with Ibucalm.

Side effects

Ibucalm may cause side effects, as is the case with all medicines on the market. In this case, the following have been observed:

  • Skin reactions at the application site such as erythema, itching or burning.
  • In addition, a number of sporadic or rare serious skin reactions have also been reported. Among others, the following have been described: exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) associated with ibuprofen-containing products.
  • In pregnancy and breast-feeding, even if the amount absorbed is small, its use is not recommended without first consulting a doctor.

Composition

Each gram of Ibucalm gel contains 50 mg of Ibuprofen as the active ingredient. It also contains the following list of excipients: 96 % ethanol, isopropyl alcohol,
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, Caprylocaprylocaproyl macroglycerides, Glycerol
(E-422), Sodium hydroxide (E-524) (10% aqueous solution), Menthol, Flavouring (methyl salicylate and other flavourings) and Purified water.
