What is Aspirin C and what is it used for?

It is a medicine formulated with acetylsalicylic acid and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) that is used to treat symptoms of fever and pain such as sprains, muscle spasms, back pain, headache or menstrual cramps.

It comes in a presentation of 20 effervescent tablets.

Who it is intended for

Aspirin C effervescent tablets are suitable for use by adults and those over 16 years of age.

Instructions for use

The appropriate dose of Aspirin C is 1 tablet every 6 hours, the maximum dose being 4000 mg of acetylsalicylic acid per day.

If the pain does not improve in 5 days, or the fever in 3 days, it is recommended to see a doctor for a proper clinical assessment.

Dose adjustment is required in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency.

Contraindications

Aspirin C Effervescent Tablets has the following contraindications, as listed below:

Related to acetylsalicylic acid:

  • If taking the following medications, special caution should be exercised due to possible interactions:Ibuprofen, cyclosporine, cimetidine and ranitidine, antidiabetics such as insulins or sulphonylureas, diuretics and antihypertensives such as ACE inhibitors and ARBs, SSRIs, interferons, vancomycin, lithium, valproic acid, barbiturics, phenytoin, methotrexate, digoxin, among others.
  • Special care should be taken in patients with allergic rhinitis, hypertension, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, urticaria, hepatic dysfunction.
  • In patients undergoing dental surgery or dental extractions, it is recommended to discontinue treatment one week before.
  • In patients who consume alcohol (beer, wine, ...), there is a risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • It should not be used as a preventive for symptoms triggered after vaccination.
  • Not recommended for use in children and children under 16 years of age due to possible onset of Reye's syndrome.

Related to ascorbic acid:

  • The doctor should be consulted for possible interactions if taking medicines such as Deferoxamine, hormonal contraceptives, disulfiram, antidepressants, anticoagulants, sulphonamides, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.
  • Not recommended for use in pregnancy in the third trimester, although during the first and second trimester, a doctor should be consulted to clinically assess its possible use.
  • Not recommended for use in lactation.

Side effects

Aspirin C Effervescent Tablets may cause side effects, as with all medicines. In this case, the following have been observed:

Related to acetylsalicylic acid:

  • Frequently, they often result in gingival bleeding, bruising, gastrointestinal bleeding, bronchial spasm, rhinitis, severe dyspnoea, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, vomiting, gastro-duodenal ulcers, Reye's syndrome in children under 16 years of age, among others.
  • Infrequently, they tend to cause liver failure, gastrointestinal inflammation, although if used for very long periods, they can cause dizziness, headache, renal failure, deafness, among others.

Related to ascorbic acid:

  • At doses higher than 600 mg per day, it can cause diarrhoea, reddening of the skin, vomiting and stomach cramps. There is also a possible risk of urinary tract stone formation or acute attacks of gout.

Composition

Each tablet of Aspirin C contains 400 mg of acetylsalicylic acid and 240 mg of ascorbic acid as active ingredients. The other excipients are: sodium hydrogencarbonate, sodium carbonate, saccharin, sodium citrate, citric acid, tetraroma orange flavouring, orange flavouring, lemon flavouring, raspberry flavouring.
