What is Angifen orange flavour and what is it used for?

Angifen is a medicine made with flurbiprofen, an active substance that belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties for the treatment of sore throat. These medicines work by modifying the body's response to pain, inflammation and fever.

Who it is for

Angifen orange is indicated in patients for the short-term relief of sore throat symptoms such as irritation, pain and inflammation and difficulty in swallowing in adults and children over 12 years of age.

Directions for use

Take 1 lozenge every 3-6 hours, as needed. Do not take more than 5 lozenges in 24 hours.

Dissolve the lozenge slowly in the mouth, do not swallow or chew.
Always swish the lozenge in your mouth as it dissolves.

Contraindications

Do not use angifen orange flavour:

  • In children under 12 years of age.
  • In patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients of this medicine.
  • Presence or history of previous active or recurrent peptic ulcer/bleeding (2 or more distinct episodes of proven ulceration) and intestinal ulceration.
  • History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, severe colitis, haemorrhagic or haematopoietic disorders related to previous NSAID treatment.
  • Last trimester of pregnancy.
  • Severe heart failure, severe renal failure or severe hepatic failure.

Side effects

As with all medicines, Angifen may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.

Common side effects:
- dizziness, headache
- sore throat
- mouth ulcers or sore mouth
- sore throat
- discomfort or unusual sensation in the mouth (warmth, burning, itching, tingling, etc.)
- nausea and diarrhoea
- itching and itching of the skin

Rare:
- numbness
- drowsiness or difficulty falling asleep
- worsening of asthma, wheezing, shortness of breath
- blisters in the mouth or throat, numbness in the throat
- dry mouth
- burning sensation in the mouth, altered sense of taste, abdominal bloating
- abdominal pain, gas, constipation, indigestion, vomiting
- reduced sensitivity in the throat
- fever, pain
- skin rashes, itching of the skin

Composition

The active substance in Angifen is flurbiprofen. Specifically, each lozenge contains 8.75 mg flurbiprofen. The other ingredients are: Isomalt (E 953), Maltitol (E 965), Acesulfame potassium (E 950), Macrogol 300 (E 1521), Orange flavouring (Limonene (50.0%-100%), decanal (0.0%-10%) citral, citronellol (0.1%-1.0%)), Potassium hydroxide (E 525), Levoment.

Pharmaceutical advice

These tablets are for short treatments only. It is not recommended to take for more than 3 days. If your symptoms do not improve, worsen or even develop new symptoms, we advise you to stop the treatment and seek medical advice.
