It works by reducing excess stomach acidity in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.

It is an antacid drug whose mechanism of action is to neutralise excess stomach acid. It is therefore indicated to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and/or acidity.
For use in adults and children over 12 years of age.
Take 1 effervescent tablet after meals or at the onset of symptoms. Up to 2 tablets may be taken, not exceeding a maximum dose of 6 tablets daily.
Patients over 65 years of age should not take more than 3 tablets a day.
Alka-Seltzer is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
It contains citric acid in its composition, so patients with uric acid stones should be especially cautious, as calcium stones may form.
As with all antacids, the absorption of the medicines may be modified. Therefore, they should be taken at least 2 hours apart.
Caution also during pregnancy and breast-feeding. If you take this medicine, you should always take it under the supervision of your doctor.
Like all medicines, Alka-Seltzer may cause side effects:
Frequent: Hypokalaemia and hypernatraemia (increased sodium level in the blood).
Very common: Gas, belching, vomiting, cramps,
The active substance of this medicine is: sodium hydrogencarbonate 2.1 g. The other excipients are: anhydrous citric acid, aspartame (E-951), mannitol (E-421), acesulfame potassium, lemon-lime flavouring, vanilla flavouring, and amiflex (composed of amino acids, glutamic acid and sodium chloride).
This medicine should not be taken on an excessively full stomach. Before taking it, you should wait for the effervescent tablet to dissolve completely.
The treatment should be effective within 14 days, otherwise you should see your doctor.
