What is Plantaben and what is it for?

It is a medicine with laxative action whose active ingredient is the cuticles of the seeds of Plantago ovata, a plant that has the capacity to retain liquid to increase faecal mass, giving it the perfect consistency to normalise intestinal transit.

Who Plantaben sachets are intended for

Plantaben sachets are used to treat the symptoms of constipation or in situations where it is necessary to facilitate the passage of stool, such as in cases of fissures, haemorrhoids or painful bowel movements after anal or rectal surgery.

Instructions for use

Empty the contents of the sachet into a glass of cold water of approximately 200 cc, dissolve until a uniform mixture is obtained and swallow quickly. It is recommended to drink 1 to 2 litres of water a day for the duration of the treatment.

As for the number of sachets, the recommended dose depends on the age of the patient:

  • Adults, adolescents from 12 years of age and older people: take 2 to 3 sachets a day, according to need.
  • Children from 6 to 12 years of age: take 1 to 2 sachets a day, as needed, without exceeding the maximum dose,

Contraindications

  • Abdominal bloating:Does Plantaben bloat the tummy? Some people may feel bloating or abdominal discomfort.
  • Abdominal pain: in rare cases, it may cause cramps or pain in the abdomen.

Your pharmacist's opinion

Plantaben 30 sachets is a medicine classified as a bulk-forming laxative. It is formulated with plantago ovata seeds, which have the property of retaining water in their cuticle, which gives stools the right volume and consistency.

We are going to prepare it with water, taking it before or after meals, depending on what we are interested in, as we know that if we take it half an hour before meals we take advantage of its satiating and appetite-reducing capacity.

This fibre is indicated for constipation and painful bowel movements with haemorrhoids, fissures or after anal surgery.
