What is Pantoprazole Pensavital and what is it used for?

It is a medicine made with pantoprazole, an active substance that reduces the amount of acid in the stomach. It is therefore used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms such as heartburn and regurgitation.

It comes in a pack of 14 gastro-resistant tablets.

Who it is for

Suitable for adults over 18 years of age.

Instructions for use

Take 1 tablet a day, not exceeding the maximum dose of 20 mg of pantoprazole a day. Continue treatment for at least 2 or 3 consecutive days.

Contraindications

Do not use Pantoprazole Pensavital:

  • In children under 18 years of age.

  • In case of allergy or hypersensitivity to pantoprazole, lactose or any of the components of this medicine.

  • If you are taking any medicine containing atazanavir (used for the treatment of HIV infection).

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding

Side effects

Like all medicines, Pantoprazole Pensavital can cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, the following have been observed:

Serious adverse reactions:

  • Rare: hypersensitivity reactions, also called anaphylactic reactions, anaphylactic shock and angioedema. Typical symptoms are: swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue and/or throat, which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing, hives (urticaria), severe dizziness with very fast heartbeat and profuse sweating.

  • Frequency unknown: skin rash with swelling, blistering or peeling of the skin, loss of skin and bleeding around the eyes, nose, mouth or genitals and rapid deterioration of your general health, or rash after sun exposure.Skin rash after sun exposure, yellowing of the skin and eyes (due to severe liver damage), or kidney problems such as painful urination and lower back pain with fever. Tingling, tingling, paraesthesia (paresthesia), burning or numbness (frequency not known).

Other adverse effects:

  • Frequent: benign polyps in the stomach.

  • Uncommon: Headache; dizziness; diarrhoea; dizziness, nausea, vomiting; bloating and flatulence (gas); constipation; dry mouth; pain and discomfort in the stomach; hives or rash; itching feeling of weakness, tiredness or general malaise; sleep disturbances; increased liver enzymes in blood tests.

  • Rare: Distortion or complete absence of the sense of taste; vision disturbances such as blurred vision; urticaria; joint pain; muscle pain; weight changes; increased body temperature; swelling in the extremities (peripheral oedema); allergic reactions; depression; increased swelling of the extremities (peripheral oedema); depression; increased blood pressure.rgic reactions; depression; increased bilirubin and fat levels in the blood (detected in blood tests); increased breast size in men; high fever and a sharp decrease in circulating granular leukocytes (observed in blood tests).

  • Very rare: Disorientation; decrease in the number of platelets in the blood which may lead to more frequent bleeding or bruising than normal; decrease in the number of white blood cells which may lead to infections.Coexistence of an abnormal decrease in the number of red blood cells, white blood cells as well as platelets (observed in blood tests).

  • Frequency not known: hallucination, confusion (especially in patients with a history of these symptoms), decreased sodium levels, decreased magnesium levels in the blood.

Composition

The active substance in Pantoprazole Pensavital is pantoprazole. Each gastro-resistant tablet contains 20 mg of pantoprazole (as sodium sesquihydrate). The other excipients are: microcrystalline cellulose (E-460), lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate (vegetable). The coating contains methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) dispersion 30%, triethyl citrate (E1505), talc (E553b) and Opadry II 85F32081 Yellow (containing partially hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol/PEG 3350, talc, iron oxide yellow (E172) and quinoline yellow aluminium lacquer (E-104)).

Pharmaceutical advice

This treatment should be maintained for at least 2 to 3 consecutive days. If you do not notice relief of symptoms after 2 consecutive weeks of treatment, consult your doctor.
