Dulcolax Picosulphate is a medicine in the form of oral drops with a laxative action that directly stimulates the nerve endings of the intestinal walls, increasing their motility and facilitating the passage of stool. It is therefore used for the relief of occasional constipation.
Comes in a 30 ml bottle.
Suitable for use in both adults and children over 6 years of age.
The recommended dosage varies according to the age of the patient:
From 12 years of age: 8-12 drops per day in a single dose.
Children from 6 to 11 years of age: 2 to 8 drops per day in a single dose.
Do not use Dulcolax Picosulphate in children under 6 years of age.
Do not take this medicine if you have intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus, if you have appendicitis or intestinal perforation, gastrointestinal bleeding or inflammatory bowel disease, or if you have haemorrhoids or anal fissures.
Contains sorbitol (a source of fructose, so special care should be taken in patients with intolerance to certain sugars or if you have been diagnosed by your doctor as having a hereditary fructose intolerance) and sodium (special care in hypertension).
Like all medicines, Dulcolax picosulphate may cause side effects:
Frequent: abdominal pain, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and discomfort.
Very common: vomiting, nausea, dizziness.
The active substance in Dulcolax Picosulphate oral drops is sodium picosulphate. Each ml (equivalent to 15 drops) contains 7.5 mg sodium picosulphate. The other ingredients are: sodium benzoate, sorbitol liquid, sodium citrate dihydrate, citric acid monohydrate and water q.s.
Dulcolax Bisacodyl is in the form of oral drops, a slightly viscous, colourless to yellowish solution.
It should be taken orally, either on its own or dissolved in a drink, preferably in the evening, so that a bowel movement occurs the following morning. If defecation does not occur within 12 hours of administration, consult a doctor.
If symptoms persist or worsen after 6 days of treatment, seek medical advice.
