It is a medicine formulated with loratadine, an active substance belonging to the group of so-called antihistamines, so it helps to reduce your allergy symptoms by blocking the effects of a substance called "histamine", which is produced in the body when you are allergic to something.
Its use relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (e.g. hay fever) such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose and itchy or stinging eyes.
Formulated for use in adults and children over 6 years of age or weighing more than 30kg.
The recommended daily dose varies according to the weight and age of the patient:
Adults and children over 6 years of age with a body weight greater than 30kg: take 1 tablet once daily.
Adults and children with severe liver problems: take 1 tablet once a day every other day.
Do not use Clarityne:
In children under 6 years of age or weighing less than 30 kg.
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to loratadine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If you are pregnant, unless prescribed by a doctor.
If you are breast-feeding, as loratadine is excreted in breast milk.
Consult your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Clarityne:
If you have liver disease
If you are going to have any kind of allergy skin tests. Do not take Clarityne for 2 days before such tests. This is because this medicine may alter the test results.
Like all medicines, Clarityne may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.
Very common in people over 12 years of age: drowsiness, headache, increased appetite and difficulty sleeping.
Very common in children aged 6 to 12 years: headache, nervousness and tiredness.
The active substance in Clarityne is loratadine. Each tablet contains 10 mg loratadine. The other excipients are lactose monohydrate, maize starch and magnesium stearate.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or may need to take any other medicines.
The slit in the tablet is only for breaking the tablet if you find it difficult to swallow it whole. They are taken with a glass of water, with or without food.
