Serragrip Powder for Oral Solution, 10 Sachets

What is Serragrip and what is it used for?

Serragrip is a medicine formulated with a combination of paracetamol, chlorphenamine and phenylephrine to relieve the symptoms of catarrhal and flu-like conditions involving pain, fever and nasal congestion.

• Paracetamol is an analgesic that reduces pain and fever.
• Chlorphenamine is an antihistamine that reduces nasal discharge.
• Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic that works by reducing nasal congestion.

 

Who it is intended for

Formulated for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age seeking relief from cold and flu symptoms.

How to use

 

The contents of the sachet should be taken completely dissolved in a small amount of liquid, preferably half a glass of water.

The recommended dose is 1 sachet (equivalent to 650 mg of paracetamol) every 6-8 hours. Do not take more than 4 sachets every 24 hours, nor more than 3 g of paracetamol every 24 hours. It is recommended to always use the lowest dose that is effective.

Please note that the administration of the preparation is subject to the onset of pain or fever. As soon as the pain or fever disappears, this medication should be discontinued.

Contraindications

Do not use Serragrip:

• In children under 12 years of age.
• In case of allergy to the active substances or to any of the components present in this medicine.
• If you have liver or thyroid disease (such as hyperthyroidism), or severe heart or artery disease (such as angina pectoris and severe coronary artery disease) or pheochromocytoma.

Precautions

If you are taking any antidepressant medicines (monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants) or antiparkinsonian medicines (such as methyldopa), you should wait 15 days between taking these medicines and Serragrip.

Side effects

As with all medicines on the market, Serragrip may cause side effects, which does not mean that all patients will experience them. In this case, the following have been observed:

Frequent:

• Due to thechlorphenamine content, drowsiness may occur in sensitive patients.

• Due tophenylephrine content, headache may occur.

Rare:

• Duetoparacetamol content, headache may occur:kidney side effects, cloudy urine, allergic dermatitis, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), blood disorders (agranulocytosis, leucopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, haemolytic anaemia) and hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Paracetamol can damage the liver when taken at high doses or in prolonged treatment.

• Due tochlorphenaminecontent, the following may occur:skin rash, increased sensitivity of the skin to the sun, increased sweating, loss of appetite, drowsiness, dizziness, paradoxical reaction (nightmares, excitability, dizziness).(nightmares, excitement, nervousness, more likely in children and elderly patients, in whom confusion is also more likely to occur). Other adverse effects include anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, nose and throat, blurred vision, urinary retention, constipation), especially at the beginning of treatment. Mental confusion and euphoria may also occur.

• Due to thephenylephrine content, the following may occur:nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, headache, elevated blood pressure (hypertension).

Compositio n

Each sachet of Serragrip contains the following active ingredients: 650 mg of paracetamol, 10 mg of phenylephrine hydrochloride and 4 mg of chlorphenamine maleate. The other excipients are: anhydrous colloidal silica, anhydrous citric acid, saccharin sodium, sucrose, sodium cyclamate, orange flavouring.
