What is Licostrata and what is it for?

It is a gel formulated with hydroquinone as the active ingredient, which acts by gradually reducing the production of excess melanin that causes dark spots on the skin.

It is indicated for the reduction of the colour of small dark spots that occasionally appear on the skin, such as freckles and age spots.

Who it is for

It is indicated for adults and children over 12 years of age.

Instructions for use

Wash and dry the affected area of the skin beforehand and then apply a small amount of product twice a day (morning and evening). Use exclusively on the blemish until the desired effect is achieved. Several weeks of treatment may be necessary.

It is important to wash your hands with soap after applying the product, as hydroquinone can cause brown spots on the nails, which disappear with time.

Do not use this product for more than 6 months.

If no improvement is observed after 2 months of treatment, discontinue treatment and consult a doctor.

Contraindications

Do not use Licostrata:

  • If you are allergic to hydroquinone or any of the excipients.

  • On open wounds, irritated skin, mucous membranes or sunburn.

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, unless prescribed by a doctor.

Side effects

Licostrata may cause side effects, as with all medicines.

  • Rare: inflammation and redness of the skin (erythema) and itching.

  • Rare: more sensitive skin. If used for very prolonged treatments, a skin hyperpigmentation reaction (skin spots) may occur, especially if the treated area is exposed to the sun.

  • Very rare: discolouration of the skin (leucoderma).

  • In prolonged treatments (more than 6 months) and at high doses, the appearance of asymmetrical blue-black patches mainly on the face and neck (ochronosis) has been observed, mainly in black individuals.

The active ingredient of Licostrata is hydroquinone. Each gram of gel contains 20 milligrams of hydroquinone.
