What is Gelocatil Flu with pseudoephedrine and what is it used for?

It is a medicine in tablet form formulated to relieve the symptoms of colds and flus with pain and fever. Thanks to its association with paracetamol, pseudoephedrine and chlorphenamine, it has a triple action:

  • Paracetamol is an analgesic that reduces pain and fever.
  • Chlorphenamine is an antihistamine that relieves runny nose.
  • Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic that reduces nasal congestion.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.

Contraindications

Do not use Gelocatil Influenza with pseudoephedrine:

- In children under 12 years of age.

- If you are allergic to the active substances or to any of the other ingredients of this medicinal product (listed in section 6).

- If you suffer from high blood pressure.

- If you suffer from hyperthyroidism.

- If you suffer from diabetes mellitus.

- If you suffer from tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).

- If you are being treated with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicine (such as some antidepressant medicines, or medicines to treat Parkinson's disease).

- If you are being treated with sympathomimetic medicines (medicines used to treat asthma, or medicines to speed up your heart rate).

- If you are being treated with beta-blocker medicines (medicines for heart or artery disease).

- If you have glaucoma (raised eye pressure).

- If you have serious heart or artery disease (such as coronary heart disease or angina pectoris, bleeding in the brain).

- If you have severe liver or kidney disease.

- If you are in the first trimester of pregnancy.

How to take Gelocatil Influenza with pseudoephedrine?

The recommended dose is 1 tablet (equivalent to 500 mg of paracetamol) every 6-8 hours. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 3 g of paracetamol per day.

Patients with hepatic insufficiency: consult your doctor in advance. You must take the amount of medicine prescribed by your doctor with a minimum interval of 8 hours between each dose. You may not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours.

Patients with kidney disease: consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Take a maximum of 1 tablet per dose. Depending on your illness, your doctor will tell you whether you should take your medicine at least 6 or 8 hours apart.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Gelocatil Influenza with pseudoephedrine may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, the following have been observed:

  • Frequent: Slight drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness: these side effects may disappear after 2-3 days of treatment. Difficulty in facial movements, clumsiness, tremor, alterations in sensations and tingling, dry mouth, loss of appetite, alterations in taste or smell, gastrointestinal discomfort (which may decrease if the medicine is taken with food), nausea, vomiting, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, constipation, constipation and vomiting.mites, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, urinary retention, dryness of nose and throat, thickening of mucus, sweating, blurred vision or other visual disturbances.
  • Rare: Malaise, low blood pressure (hypotension), and increased levels of transaminases in the blood. Myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), pulmonary oedema (increased volume of fluid in the lungs) and cerebral haemorrhage (at high doses or in sensitive patients). Nervous excitement (usually at high doses and more common in the elderly and children), which may include symptoms such as: restlessness, insomnia, nervousness and even convulsions.
  • Very rare: kidney disease, cloudy urine, allergic dermatitis (skin rash), jaundice (yellowing of the skin), blood disorders (neutropenia, neutropenia, haemolytic anaemia) and hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Severe skin reactions have been reported very rarely.
  • Frequency unknown: Anxiety, irritability, weakness, increased blood pressure (hypertension, usually with high doses and in sensitive patients), headache (with high doses and may be a symptom of hypertension), , very slow heartbeat (bradycardia), very slow heartbeat (bradycardia).very slow heartbeat (severe bradycardia), reduced blood vessel calibre (peripheral vasoconstriction), reduced cardiac output especially affecting the elderly and patients with poor cerebral or coronary circulation, possible production of blood clots in the brain or coronary arteries.(peripheral vasoconstriction), reduced performance of the heart especially affecting the elderly and patients with poor cerebral or coronary circulation, possible development or aggravation of heart disease, urinary retention, pallor, bristly hair, high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia), low blood potassium, metabolic acidosis (impaired metabolism of the blood), low blood potassium, and low blood sugar (hyperglycaemia).(impaired metabolism), cold extremities (legs or arms), flushing, feeling faint (hypotension), decreased blood flow to the optic nerve (ischaemic optic neuropathy). High doses may cause: vomiting, palpitations, psychotic states with hallucinations; prolonged use may cause decreased blood volume.

Composition

Each tablet of Gelocatil Influenza with pseudoephedrine contains 500 mg paracetamol, 30 mg pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (equivalent to 24.57 mg pseudoephedrine) and 4 mg chlorphenamine maleate (equivalent to 2.81 mg chlorphenamine) as active ingredients. The other excipients are: microcrystalline cellulose, maize starch, povidone, talc, magnesium stearate and purified water.

Pharmaceutical advice

Administration is subject to the onset of symptoms. If fever persists for more than 3 days of treatment, pain or other symptoms persist for more than 5 days, or worsen or new symptoms appear, you should consult your doctor.
