Gelocatil Influenza Forte Granules for Oral Solution, 10 Sachets

It is a medicine in the form of granulated sachets formulated with paracetamol, phenylephrine and chlorphenamine, three active ingredients used to relieve flu symptoms. This combination of active ingredients has a triple action:

• Paracetamol is an analgesic that reduces pain and fever.
• Chlorphenamine is an antihistamine that relieves runny nose.
• Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic that reduces nasal congestion.

It is indicated for the relief of symptoms of colds and flus with fever, mild to moderate pain, congestion and runny nose in adults and adolescents over 15 years of age.

Gelocatil Influenza Forte with phenylephrine is taken orally. The instructions for use are as follows: dissolve the contents of the sachet completely in a small amount of liquid, preferably half a glass of water, and then drink.

The recommended dose is 1 sachet (650 mg of paracetamol) every 6-8 hours as needed. Do not exceed the maximum dose of 3 grams of paracetamol per day.

Patients with hepatic insufficiency: they can only take 1 sachet every 8-12 hours as needed, although they should inform their doctor before using this medicine. They should not take more than 3 sachets in 24 hours, divided into 3 doses.

Patients with renal insufficiency: the use of this medicine is contraindicated because it contains paracetamol.

Patients with chronic alcoholism: they should be careful not to take more than 3 sachets a day of Gelocatil gripe forte with phenylephrine.

Do not take Gelocatil flu forte with phenylephrine:

- In children under 15 years of age.

- If you are allergic to the active substances or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

- If you suffer from high blood pressure.

- If you suffer from hyperthyroidism.

- If you suffer from diabetes mellitus.

- If you suffer from tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).

- If you are being treated with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicine (such as some antidepressant medicines, or medicines to treat Parkinson's disease).

- If you are being treated with sympathomimetic medicines (medicines used to treat asthma, or medicines to speed up your heart rate).

- If you are being treated with beta-blocker medicines (medicines for the heart or to treat artery disease) (see: Taking Gelocatil gripe forte with phenylephrine with other medicines).

- If you have glaucoma (raised eye pressure).

- If you have severe heart or artery disease (such as coronary heart disease or angina pectoris).

Consult your doctor before taking this medicine:

• Patients with kidney, liver, heart or lung disease and patients with anaemia.

• Asthmatic patients sensitive to acetylsalicylic acid.

• Patients sensitive (allergic) to an antihistamine, because they may be sensitive to other antihistamines (such as chlorphenamine).
• Patients who are being treated with medicines to treat: prostatic hypertrophy, bronchial asthma, very slow heartbeat, hypotension, cerebral arteriosclerosis, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), digestive ulcer (stenosing peptic ulcer).peptic ulcer), pyloroduodenal obstruction (between the stomach and the intestine), thyroid disease, patients sensitive to the sedative effects of some medicines.
• If you are being treated with tricyclic antidepressants or medicines with a similar effect and you develop gastrointestinal problems, you should stop taking this medicine and consult a doctor immediately, because paralytic ileus (stopping the normal movement of part of the intestine) may occur.

Like all medicines, Gelocatil Gripe Forte may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.

• Common side effects: Slight drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness: these side effects may disappear after 2-3 days of treatment. Difficulty in facial movements, clumsiness, tremor, alterations in sensations and tingling, dry mouth, loss of appetite, alterations in taste or smell, gastrointestinal discomfort (which may decrease if the medicine is administered with food), nausea, vomiting, vomiting, vomiting, nausea and vomiting.vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, urinary retention, dryness of the nose and throat, thickening of mucus, sweating, blurred vision or other visual disturbances.
• Rare: Malaise, low blood pressure (hypotension), and increased levels of transaminases in the blood. Myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), pulmonary oedema (increased volume of fluid in the lungs) and cerebral haemorrhage (at high doses or in sensitive patients).
• Very rare: kidney disease, cloudy urine, allergic dermatitis (skin rash), jaundice (yellowing of the skin), blood disorders (neutropenia, haemolytic anaemia) and hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Serious skin reactions have been reported very rarely.

Each granulated sachet of Geloctatil Gripe Forte contains 650 mg paracetamol, 15.58 mg phenylephrine bitartrate (equivalent to 8.21 mg phenylephrine) and 4 mg chlorphenamine maleate (equivalent to 2.8 mg chlorphenamine). The other excipients are: Mannitol (E-421), saccharin sodium (E-954), anhydrous colloidal silica, orange flavouring (containing maltodextrin, which is a maize starch derivative) and povidone.

Gelocatil Gripe Forte with phenylephrine is available as a granulated sachet for oral solution with an orange flavour. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack.

The use of this medicine is subject to the onset of symptoms. As symptoms disappear, this medicine should be discontinued. If fever persists for more than 3 days, pain or other symptoms persist for more than 5 days, or worsen or new symptoms appear, you should consult your doctor.
