What is Lacryvisc and what is it used for?

It is a medicine in the form of a highly viscous ophthalmic gel that forms a protective layer over the eye to keep its surface moist, thanks to its formula with carbomer as the active ingredient. It is specially formulated for the treatment of dry eye symptoms.

It comes in a handy 10 ml bottle.

Who it is intended for

This medicine is intended for adults over 18 years of age, as there are insufficient studies on adolescents and children. Although there are apparently no problems with its use, it should be prescribed by a doctor if used in adolescents and children. This medicine is suitable for use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Directions for use

Apply 1 drop to the corner of the eye closest to the nose, 2-4 times a day, and approximately 30 minutes before bedtime.

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before use and wait at least 30 minutes before putting them back in.

Contraindications

Do not use Lacryvisc:

  • In children under 18 years of age without a doctor's prescription.

  • In case of allergy to carbomer or any of the excipients of this medicine.

Side effects

Lacryvisc may cause side effects, as with all medicines. In this case, side effects do not usually occur, except in very rare cases where the following have been reported: allergy and hypersensitivity reactions, sticky eyelids, conjunctivitis (red eyes), mottling (or spots) on the cornea (the surface of the eye), swollen eyes, burning, itching and irritation of the eye.

Composition

The active substance in Lacryvisc is carbomer. Each tube contains 3.0 mg of carbomer per gram of gel. Other excipients: benzalkonium chloride, sorbitol (E-420), sodium hydroxide and purified water.

Pharmaceutical advice

Lacryvisc is a highly viscous, whitish gel. To apply it, simply hold the tube just above the eye and squeeze gently so that the gel falls into the hollow between the eyeball and the lower eyelid. Move the eye while it is open to ensure that the medicine is completely distributed over the entire surface of the eye. It is very important to wash hands thoroughly before each application.

Once opened, the product remains stable for up to 28 days.
