What is Lipolac and what does it do?

Lipolac is a highly viscous gel medicine that forms a protective layer over the eye to keep its surface moist. It is specially formulated for the treatment of dry eye symptoms.

It comes in a handy 10 ml bottle.

Who it is for

This medicine is intended for adults over 18 years of age, as there are insufficient studies on adolescents and children. Although there are apparently no problems with its use, it should be prescribed by a doctor if used in adolescents and children. Also, for use during pregnancy and lactation, consult a doctor.

Directions for use

The recommended dose is 1 drop in the corner of the eye closest to the nose, 3-5 times a day, and approximately 30 minutes before bedtime.

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before use and wait at least 30 minutes before putting them back in.

Contraindications

Do not use Lipolac if you are allergic to carbomer or any of the other excipients.

Side effects

Lipolac may cause side effects, as with all medicines. In this case, side effects do not usually occur, except in very rare cases where the following have been reported: allergy and hypersensitivity reactions, sticky eyelids, conjunctivitis (red eyes), mottling (or dots) on the cornea (the surface of the eye), swollen eyes, burning, itching and irritation of the eye.

Composition

The active substance in Lipolac is carbomer. Each tube contains 2.0 mg of carbomer per gram of gel. The other excipients: cetrimide, sorbitol, medium chain triglycerides, sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment) and water for injections.

Advice from your pharmacist

Lipolac ophthalmic gel is a highly viscous, whitish gel. To apply it, simply hold the tube just above the eye and squeeze gently, so that the gel falls into the hollow between the eyeball and the lower eyelid. Move the eye while it is open to ensure that the medication is completely distributed throughout the eye. Wash hands thoroughly before each application.

Once opened, it can be kept for up to 28 days.
