What is Normostop Caffeine and what is it used for?

It is a medicine indicated for the prevention and treatment of symptoms of motion sickness caused by land, sea or air transport, such as nausea, vomiting and/or dizziness. It also contains caffeine to prevent drowsiness.

It comes in a handy pack of 4 film-coated tablets.

Who it is intended for

Suitable for use in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.

Instructions for use

Take 1 or 2 tablets per dose, directly without chewing and with a little water. If necessary, the dose may be repeated every 4-6 hours.

Do not exceed the maximum dose of 8 tablets per day (corresponding to 400 mg dimenhydrinate and 400 mg caffeine).

Contraindications

Do not take Normostop Caffeine:

  • If you are allergic to dimenhydrinate, diphenhydramine, caffeine (or derivatives thereof, such as aminophylline, theophylline, etc.) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

  • If you have porphyria (a rare disorder, usually inherited, in which large amounts of porphyrin are excreted in urine and faeces).

  • If you have asthma attacks.

  • If you suffer from mental disorders that cause nervous excitement or crises in which convulsive movements appear, with or without loss of consciousness (epilepsy).

  • If you suffer from anxiety or insomnia (difficulty sleeping).

  • If you suffer from severe liver or heart disorders.

  • If you suffer from stomach or duodenal ulcer.

  • If you suffer from high blood pressure.

Side effects

  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach pain.

  • Lack of appetite and dry mouth.

  • Sleepiness and sedation (drowsiness).

  • Headache, dizziness and lightheadedness.

  • Increased mucus viscosity in the bronchial tubes, making breathing difficult.

  • Urinary retention and sexual impotence.

  • Glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure in the eye).

  • Dilated pupils, blurred vision or double vision.

  • Allergic skin reactions and sensitivity to sunlight after intense exposure, which may cause hives, itching and reddening of the skin.

  • Decreased numbers of red blood cells, white blood cells, white blood cells, white blood cells and platelets in the blood.

  • Porphyria (a rare disorder, usually inherited, in which large amounts of porphyrin are excreted in faeces and urine).

  • Hypotension (low blood pressure).

  • Tachycardia, palpitations and/or cardiac arrhythmias.

  • Hyperexcitability may occur, especially in children, with symptoms such as insomnia, nervousness, confusion, tremor, irritability, euphoria, delirium, palpitations and even convulsions.

Composition

Each capsule of Normostop Caffeine contains 50 mg dimenhydrinate and 50 mg caffeine as active substances. The other ingredients (excipients) are: Microcrystalline cellulose (E-460), Crospovidone, Povidone, Colloidal anhydrous silica, Magnesium stearate, Hypromellose, Titanium dioxide (E-171), Macrogol 6000 and Talc (E-553b).
