What is Paracetamol Combix 500 mg and what is it for?

It is a medicine formulated with 500 mg paracetamol, an active substance effective in reducing pain and fever. It is therefore used for the symptomatic relief of fever and occasional mild to moderate pain in people over 12 years of age and over 33 kg body weight.

It comes in a pack of 20 tablets.

Who itis intended for

Suitable for use inadults and adolescents aged 12 years and over and weighing more than 33 kg.

Instructions for use

The tablets should be swallowed whole or broken in half, with the aid of a liquid, preferably water.

The recommended dose varies according to the weight and age of the patient:

  • Adolescents aged 12 years to 18 years (weight between 33 - 50 kg): administer 1 tablet every 4-6 hours, as needed, up to amaximum of 4 tablets per day.
  • Over 18 years ofage: take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours , as needed, up to a maximum of6 tablets per day.Do not exceed 3 grams in 24 hours.

For patients with other pathologies:

  • Patients with liver disease:they should take the amount of medicine prescribed by their doctor with a minimum interval between each intake of 8 hours. They should not take more than 2 grams (4 tablets) of paracetamol in 24 hours.
  • Patients with kidney disease: they should take a maximum of 500 mg of paracetamol per dose .Depending on your illness, your doctor will tell you whether you should take your medicine at a minimum interval of 6 or 8 hours.

Contraindications

Do not use Paracetamol Combix Efg:

  • In children under 12 years of age.

  • In case of allergy to paracetamol or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Paracetamol Combix Efg 500 mg may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. In this case, the following effects have been observed:

  • Rare:malaise,hypotension (low blood pressure),increased levels of transaminases in the blood.
  • Veryrare:kidney disease, cloudy urine, allergic dermatitis (including rash, angioedema and Stevens Johnson syndrome), jaundice (yellowing of the skin).( yellowing of the skin), blood disorders (agranulocytosis, leukopenia, neutropenia, haemolytic anaemia) and hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). Serious skinreactions have been reported very rarely . Bronchialspasm in patients allergic to aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Precautions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to take paracetamol:

  • If you have liver problems, including those caused by excessive alcohol consumption.

  • If you have kidney problems.

  • If you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.

  • If you suffer from anorexia, bulimia, cachexia or chronic malnutrition.

  • If you suffer from dehydration or hypovolaemia.

  • If you are taking a medicine to treat epilepsy.

  • If you have Gilbert's disease (also known as Meulengracht 's disease ).

  • If you have heart failure, respiratory failure or anaemia; in these situations, administration should be done under supervision and only for short periods.

  • If you suffer from asthma and are sensitive to acetylsalicylic acid.

Composition

The active substance is paracetamol. Each capsule contains 500 mg paracetamol. The other ingredients (excipients) are: magnesium stearate.
The gelatine capsule consists of: gelatine, carmoisine (E-122) and titanium dioxide (E-171).

Pharmaceutical advice

The tablets are scored, which allows them to be broken in half to divide them into equal doses. Remember not to exceed the stated dose and always use the lowest dose that is effective. Remember not to take more than the maximum daily dose, as serious liver damage may occur.You should consult a doctor if fever worsens or does not improve or worsens after 3 days of treatment.In case of pain, consult a doctor if pain persists for 5 days.
