Ointment for the local relief of pain, itching, stinging and inflammation associated with haemorrhoids in adults.
Contains 30 g.
Cohortan is a medicine that belongs to the group of so-called "topical antihaemorrhoidal corticosteroid preparations". Its effectiveness is due to its two active ingredients, hydrocortisone (anti-inflammatory) and cincocaine hydrochloride (local anaesthetic).
Its use is indicated for the local relief of pain, itching, stinging and inflammation associated with haemorrhoids in adults.
Suitable for use in adults over 18 years of age.
During pregnancy and lactation, use only under medical prescription.
It is recommended to apply a small amount of ointment equivalent to 2 centimetres to the anal and/or rectal area. Reapply 1 or 2 times a day, up to a maximum of 7 consecutive days.
Do not use Cohortal:
In case of allergy to hydrocortisone and/or cinchocaine or to any of the excipients.
If you have haemorrhoidal haemorrhage or uncontrolled bacterial, viral or fungal infections.
If you have tuberculosis.
Cohortan may cause side effects, as with all medicines. This does not mean that everyone will experience side effects. In particular, the following have been observed:
Blurred vision may occur with an unknown frequency. In isolated cases, local adverse reactions may occur, mainly due to hypersensitivity to the preparation, and even more so in prolonged treatment. Systemic adverse effects rarely occur at the recommended doses. If sensitivity or irritation occurs in the treated area, treatment should be discontinued.
Corticosteroids, if used in excess or for a prolonged period of time, may cause adverse reactions such as sodium and water retention with oedema, calcium and phosphate mobilisation, elevated blood glucose, delayed wound healing and increased susceptibility to infection. Adrenal suppression may occur and may be prolonged over time if treatment has been prolonged. In this case, discontinuation of treatment should be gradual.
The active ingredients of Cohortal Rectal are: hydrocortisone and cinchocaine hydrochloride. Each gram of ointment contains 5 mg of hydrocortisone and 5 mg of cincocaine hydrochloride. The other excipients are: castor oil, tocopherol, liquid petroleum jelly and solid petroleum jelly.
This is a white, soft, homogeneous rectal ointment, which looks like petroleum jelly and has a barely perceptible odour.
As it is formulated with castor oil, it may cause skin reactions.
It is advisable to apply in the morning and evening, preferably after a bowel movement and personal hygiene.
Before application, the area should be cleaned with warm water and soap, and the ointment should be applied with a clean gauze. In case of internal haemorrhoids, use the enclosed cannula. Wash hands thoroughly immediately before and after each application.
