Acyclovir is an antiviral medicine cream that treats the symptoms associated with cold sores, including itching, stinging or tingling.
It is intended for use in people aged 12 years and over who are seeking relief from the symptoms of cold sores or fever blisters.
Start administering as soon as the first symptoms appear, applying it exclusively to the cold sore, avoiding the mucosal area. Continue treatment for about 5 days, which may be extended for up to 10 days.
It is important to wash your hands afterwards to prevent the lesion from spreading to other areas of the body or infecting other people.
Do not use Acyclovir cream:
- In case of allergy to acyclovir or to any of the ingredients present in this product.
This cream may cause side effects, as with all other medicines:
- Infrequent: temporary burning or itching, mild dryness, scaling, itching.
- Rare: reddening of the skin, contact dermatitis.
- Very rare: immediate hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema (inflammatory process of the deep area of the skin that manifests with swelling of the throat or difficulty in swallowing or breathing).
Each gram of acyclovir cream contains 50 mg of this active substance. The other excipients are: arlatone 983 S, dimethicone, cetyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, white petrolatum, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide and purified water.
Acyclovir Sandoz cream is a topical medicine formulated with acyclovir. It is an antiviral active ingredient that fights herpes zoster, which is responsible for cold sores, commonly known as fever blisters. Its use relieves the symptoms of burning and itching, and can be used in patients over 12 years of age.
The recommended dosage is one application every 4 hours, bearing in mind that intense sun exposure should be avoided, as this product may increase photosensitivity.
