What is Teva Levonogestrel and what is it used for?

It isanemergency oral contraceptive indicated to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or when contraception has failed.

It comes in a pack of 1 tablet.

Who itis intended for

Suitable for use in women, regardless of weight or BMI.

How to use

Take the tablet as soon as possible,preferably within12 hours,and no later than 72 hours (3 days)afterunprotected sex.

Take the tablet whole with a little water and do not chew. Do not delay taking the tablet. This medicine works best the sooner you take it after unprotected sex.

You can take Levonorgestrel Teva at any time during your menstrual cycle, except if you are already pregnant or think you may be pregnant .

Contraindications

Do not use Levonorgestrel Teva:

• In case of allergy to levonorgestrel or to any of the ingredients present in this medicine.

Side effects

As with all medicines, Teva Levonogestrel 1.5 mg may cause side effects. This does not mean that all patients will experience side effects. In this case, the following have been observed:

• Very common: dizziness, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, increased breast tenderness, delayed menstruation, exceptionally heavy menstruation, bleeding, uterine pain, fatigue.
• Frequent: diarrhoea, vomiting, painful periods.
• Frequency not known: cases of thromboembolic events (blood clots) have been reported during the post-marketing period , allergic reactions such as swelling of the throat and face and hivesmay occur while taking this medicine.

• If you have had an ectopic pregnancy,
• If you have had a fallopian tube infection (salpingitis),
• If you have a personal or family history of known risk factors for thrombosis (blood clots),
• If you have any serious digestive problems that prevent the absorption of food or medication,
• If you have severe liver problems or severe small bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease,

A previous ectopic pregnancy or fallopian tube infection increases the risk of a new ectopic pregnancy. If you have had an ectopic pregnancy or a fallopian tube infection, contact your doctor before takingLevonorgestrelTeva.
