What is Aurovitas Ulipristal and what is it used for?

Aurovitas Ulipristal is an emergency contraceptive, formulated with ulipristal, intended to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or failure of the contraceptive method used.

It comes in a pack of 1 tablet.

Who it is for

It is intended for use by women when:

  • have had unprotected sex
  • the condom used by you or your partner breaks, comes off, comes off or comes loose, or if you forget to use it
  • you have forgotten to take the contraceptive pill.

Instructions for use

How to take Ulipristal Aurovitas?

Take one tablet by mouth as soon as possible, but no later than 5 days (120 hours) after unprotected sexual intercourse or failure of the contraceptive method used. Take the tablet without delay.

You can take the tablet at any time of the menstrual cycle and at any time of the day, during or after a meal.

If you vomit (vomit back up) within 3 hours of taking the tablet, take another tablet as soon as possible. If you have unprotected sex after taking the tablet, it will not prevent you from becoming pregnant. After you have taken the tablet and until your next period, you should always use a condom when you have sex.

Contraindication s

Do not use Ulipristal Aurovitas:

  • If you have previously had an ectopic (outside the uterus) pregnancy, if you have had pelvic inflammatory disease (salpingitis), if you have a high risk factor for thrombosis, if you have a disease that interferes with the absorption of food and medicines, or if you have liver or bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease).
  • If you are already pregnant, as this medicine does not interrupt a pregnancy already in progress, so you should not take it if it has already occurred.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Ulipristal Aurovitas may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them.

Symptoms such as breast tenderness (breast pain) and abdominal (stomach) pain, vomiting (vomiting back up) and nausea (dizziness) are also possible signs of pregnancy. If you miss your period and experience these symptoms after taking this medicine, you should take a pregnancy test.

Frequent:

  • nausea, abdominal (stomach) pain or discomfort, vomiting, painful periods, pelvic pain.

  • changes in appetite, emotional disorders, anxiety, agitation, sleep problems, drowsiness, migraine headaches, visual disorders
  • flu
  • acne, skin lesions, itching
  • fever, chills, malaise

Rare:

  • genital pain or itching, pain during sex, rupture of an ovarian cyst, lighter than usual periods
  • loss of concentration, dizziness, trembling, disorientation, fainting
  • strange sensation in the eyes, red eyes, light sensitivity
  • dryness of the throat, taste disorders
  • allergic reactions such as rash, hives or swelling of the face
  • feeling of thirst

Precautions

Consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care professional before you start taking this medicine:

  • if your period is late or you have symptoms of pregnancy (swollen breasts, morning sickness), because you may already be pregnant.
  • if you have severe asthma
  • if you have severe liver disease.

Composition

The active substance in Ulipristal Aurovitas is ulipristal acetate. Specifically, each film-coated tablet contains 30 milligrams of ulipristal acetate. The other ingredients are: lactose monohydrate, pregelatinised maize starch, croscarmellose sodium, solid carboxymethyl starch (type A) (from type A), croscarmellose sodium, carboxymethyl starch (from type A) (from type B).(potato) starch (type A), magnesium stearate, hypromellose (E464), hydroxypropylcellulose (E463), stearic acid (E570), talc (E553b), titanium dioxide (E171).

Pharmaceutical advice

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using ulipristal acetate. Your doctor may prescribe another type of (non-hormonal) emergency contraception, i.e. a Cu-IUD.

In all women, emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex. This is not a regular method of contraception. It is recommended for use only in exceptional or emergency cases.
