It is an emergency contraceptive to be used within 72 hours after unprotected sex, or after failure of the contraceptive used.
This medicine should only be used up to 3 days after sexual intercourse.
Suitable for use as an emergency contraceptive.
Not for use before the first menstrual bleeding (menarche).
Take the tablet orally as soon as possible, up to 3 days after, and at any time during the menstrual cycle.
If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken.
Do not use Navela:
In case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
As a regular method of contraception. This is an emergency contraceptive.
If you are pregnant.
Small amounts of the active substance in this medicine may appear in breast milk, although this is not thought to be harmful to the baby. However, if you are concerned, you can take the tablet immediately after breast-feeding and express your milk within 6 hours of taking Navela and discard it. This may reduce the amount of active substance your baby receives in your breast milk.
Like all medicines, Navela can cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them:
Very common: nausea , irregular bleeding until the next period, pain in the lower abdomen, tiredness, headache.
Frequent: vomiting, different period may be earlier or later than expected and you may even have irregular bleeding, increased breast tenderness, diarrhoea, or dizziness after taking this medicine.
Very rare: rash, hives, itching and swelling of the face, pelvic pain, painful menstruation.
The active substance in Navela is Levonorgestrel. Each tablet contains 1.5 mg Levonorgestrel. The other excipients are: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate (lactose), poloxamer 188, croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or may need to take any other medicines.
This tablet can be taken at any time of the cycle and at any time of the day, as long as it is within 72 hours.
It is very important to note that it should not be used as a regular contraceptive and that if you have sex after taking it you should use a condom as a method of contraception until your next period.
