What is Olfen and what is it used for?

Olfen is a medicine formulated with diclofenac, an active substance belonging to the group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), for the short-term local and symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain in acute strains, sprains or bruises following blunt trauma.

It is packaged in a convenient 100 g tube.

Who it is intended for

Specially formulated for adults and adolescents over 14 years of age.

Instructions for use

Olfel gel is used 3 to 4 times a day. Depending on the size of the affected area to be treated, a quantity the size of a cherry or a walnut is required, corresponding to 1 - 4 g of gel.

The maximum daily dose is 16 grams of gel.

Contraindications

Do not use Olfen gel:

- Under 14 years of age.

- If you are in the last trimester of pregnancy.

- If you are allergic to diclofenac or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

- If you have ever developed breathing problems (asthma, bronchospasm), hives, runny nose or swelling of the face or tongue after taking/using aspirin or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (e.g. ibuprofen),

- on open wounds, inflammation or infection of the skin as well as on eczema or mucous membranes,

Side effects

As with all medicines, Olfen may cause side effects. This does not mean that all people will experience side effects. In this case, the following have been observed:

- Frequent: Skin rash, itching, redness, eczema, dermatitis (inflammation of the skin) including contact dermatitis.

- Rare: Peeling, skin dehydration, swelling (oedema).

- Very rare: pustular rash, gastrointestinal discomfort, hypersensitivity reactions (including urticaria), sensitivity to light with appearance of skin reactions after exposure to sunlight.

Composition

The active substance in Olfen is diclofenac. Specifically, each gram contains 11.6 mg diclofenac diethylamine, equivalent to 10 mg diclofenac sodium.
The other ingredients are carbomer, cocoyl capryl caprylocaprate, macrogol ketostearyl ether, liquid paraffin, diethylamine, isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, propylene glycol and isopropyl alcohol.(E1520), fragrance (containing citronellol, geraniol, benzyl alcohol (E1519), linalool, limonene, citral, farnesol, coumarin, eugenol), purified water.
