What is Niquitin 2 mg 60 Mint Tablets?

It is a medicine that is used as an aid to stop smoking through so-called Nicotine Replacement Therapy or NRT. It comes in the form of 60 lozenges with a pleasant mint flavour.

What NiQuitin 2 mg 60 Mint Tablets are used for

NiQuitin 2 mg, in the form of mint-flavoured lozenges, is a medicine designed to help people stop smoking. This product is part of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), which aims to relieve the withdrawal symptoms and nicotine cravings that smokers experience when trying to quit.

How to take Niquitin 2 mg

Put a NiQuitin lozenge in your mouth and move it from one side of your mouth to the other until it dissolves completely. This may take about 10 minutes. Do not chew the tablet or swallow it whole.

Do not exceed the maximum dose of 15 sucking tablets per day (24 hours).

Do not use NiQuitin:

  • In children under 12 years of age.
  • In case of allergy to nicotine or to any of the components present in this medicine.
  • In non-smokers.

Side effects

Like all medicines, NiQuitin can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you notice any of the following serious side effects, stop taking NiQuitin and contact a doctor immediately:

  • Severe allergic reaction, the symptoms of which include sudden wheezing or tightness in the chest, rash and feeling faint (very rare).
  • Swelling of the skin or mucous membranes, face, tongue and throat leading to breathing difficulties (frequency not known).

Other side effects that may occur are:

  • Very common: nausea, vomiting, sleep disturbance.
  • Frequent: nervousness, dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, tremor, constipation, indigestion/heartburn, flatulence, hiccups, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, feeling short of breath, pain in the throat, coughing, difficulty breathing.Rare: difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath, pain in upper abdomen, dry mouth, mouth ulcers, mouth discomfort, fatigue (tiredness), general ill feeling, flu-like symptoms, lack of energy.
  • Rare: difficulty swallowing, palpitations, increased number of heartbeats.
  • Rare: hypersensitivity.
  • Frequency not known: seizures, abnormal dreams, depression, irritability, anxiety, taste disturbance/distortion, rash, itching, reddening of the skin, increased sweating, hives, tingling in the mouth, belching, hypersecretion of saliva.

Smoking cessation can cause symptoms such as dizziness, headache, sleep disturbances, cough, cold-like symptoms. Symptoms such as depression, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, increased appetite and insomnia may also be related to withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.

Composition of Niquitin 2 mg

The active substance in Niquitin 2 mg is nicotine. Each lozenge contains nicotine resinate equivalent to 2 mg of nicotine. The other ingredients are: mannitol (E421), sodium alginate (E401), xanthan gum (E415), potassium bicarbonate (E501), calcium polycarbophyllo, sodium carbonate anhydrous (E500), acesulfame potassium (E950), peppermint flavouring (racemic menthol, peppermint oil, acacia), magnesium stearate (E470b), sucralose.
