It is a medicine formulated with calcium in the form of chewable tablets that is used to supplement calcium deficiency, as well as for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis.
Suitable for use in adults and children over 6 years of age.
During pregnancy it could be used under medical prescription, in case of calcium deficiency.
Cimascal is taken orally. Its tablets can be taken by chewing or sucking, followed by drinking a little water. The recommended dosage varies according to the age of the patient:
Adults: the usual recommended dose is 1 to 2 tablets a day.
Children: the usual recommended dose is 1 tablet a day for calcium deficiency.
Do not use Cimascal:
In children under 6 years of age.
In case of allergy to calcium or to any of the excipients,
In patients with kidney stones or high amounts of calcium in the blood or urine.
Cimascal may cause side effects, as with all medicines, but this does not mean that everyone will experience them. Specifically, the following have been observed
Disorders of metabolism and nutrition.
Hypercalcaemia (high amounts of calcium in blood) and hypercalciuria (high amounts of calcium in urine).
Gastrointestinal disorders.
Constipation, gas, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders.
Itching, rash and urticaria.
The active substance in Cimascal is calcium. Each tablet contains 600 mg of calcium in the form of calcium carbonate. Other excipients: sorbitol (E420), lactose, maltodextrins, croscarmellose sodium, aspartame (E951), saccharin sodium, magnesium stearate, aniseed essence, peppermint essence, molasses essence.
This medicine comes in the form of white chewable tablets.
If you take Cimascal together with foods containing oxalic acid (found in spinach and rhubarb) or phytic acid (found in wholemeal bread and wholegrain cereals), interactions may occur. It is therefore advisable not to take Cimascal within two hours of taking foods high in oxalic acid and phytic acid.
