It is a medicinal calcium supplement indicated for calcium deficiency states, as well as for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and hyperphosphatemia (high levels of phosphates in the blood).
It comes in a pack of 60 tablets.
Suitable for use in adults and children over 3 years of age.
The recommended dosage varies according to the age of the patient.
Children: 1 tablet per day
Adults: 1-2 tablets a day.
Do not use Carbocal:
In children under 3 years of age.
If you have high levels of calcium in blood (hypercalcaemia), in urine (hypercalciuria) or if you suffer from kidney stones.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding and have not previously consulted your doctor.
Like all medicines, Carbocal may cause side effects:
Common adverse reactions: Hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain.
The active substance in Carbocal is calcium carbonate. Each tablet contains 1,500 mg calcium carbonate (equivalent to 600 mg calcium). The other ingredients are: potato starch sodium glycolate, povidone, sodium lauryl sulphate, magnesium stearate and gum acacia.
Caosine comes in white tablets and can be taken with or without food.
It should not be taken until two hours after ingestion of foods rich in oxalic or phytic acid such as spinach, rhubarb or wholegrain cereals.
