Chlorxil 20 mg is a medicine formulated with chlorhexidine digluconate, an active substance used as a skin antiseptic.
It is indicated for use as a skin antiseptic before invasive medical procedures such as punctures, injections, catheter insertion and preoperative field in surgeries, catheter maintenance and surgical suturing in adults and children.
This medicine should only be used on prescription in children under 30 months of age. Special caution should also be exercised in neonates, especially in premature babies.
Apply the product gently to the area of the skin that needs to be prepared. Spray as often as necessary depending on the subsequent medical procedure. The product should be applied directly to the area to be treated and allowed to dry before any procedure.
Do not use Clorxil 20 mg/ml:
Like all medicines, Clorxil 20 mg/ml may cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. In this case, the adverse effects that have been observed are very rare, and include: skin irritation, including: erythema, rash, urticaria, pruritus and blisters or vesicles at the site of administration.
Other local symptoms may include: burning sensation of the skin, pain and swelling.
Each ml of Clorxil 20 mg solution contains chlorhexidine digluconate 20 mg as the active substance. The excipient is purified water.
The simultaneous or successive use of other antiseptics should be avoided to minimise the risk of possible interference between them.
The product is incompatible with anionic derivatives (soaps) and the skin should be thoroughly rinsed after cleansing.
